Breaking:
A Bloomberg  investigation finds that Koch Industries -- a global empire run by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, prominent financial backers of conservative groups -- made "improper payments" to win business in other countries and "sold millions of dollars of petrochemical equipment to Iran, a country the U.S. identifies as a sponsor of global terrorism."

"Internal company documents show that the company made those sales through foreign subsidiaries, thwarting a U.S. trade ban. Koch Industries units have also rigged prices with competitors, lied to regulators and repeatedly run afoul of environmental regulations, resulting in five criminal convictions since 1999 in the U.S. and Canada."

Frank Guinta received $5,000 in the 2010 cycle from Koch Industries Inc. PAC.

Also, Koch funded Americans for Prosperity spent $74,417 on attacking Carol Shea-Porter.

In congress, on inauguration day, David Koch personally invited Frank Guinta to a private party.

For the 2012 cycle Koch industries has given Guinta $2500 so far.

Corrupt (0.00 / 0)
is a correct description of Frank Guinta.  You don't even need to know all of this, all you have to do is to watch what he does, and compare it to what he says.  Have you ever seen one of those campaign e-mails his House office sends out as news?

Helping Job Creators in Laconia

The can-do spirit of New Hampshire's entrepreneurs was on display in Laconia Wednesday morning. I had the honor of delivering the keynote address at the Lakes Region Business Resources Fair . Some 100 of them attended this very positive, hopeful event. It was held so that potential small business owners could learn how to turn their idea into a real business, and for existing small business owners to find the tools and resources they need to grow and expand. Helping both groups is an important step in improving the lakes region economy and in creating new jobs for Granite Staters. I salute the many people who attended the conference for their optimism and desire to succeed.

Talking Medicare (and More) in Exeter

One of the great things about Granite Staters is they're not afraid to speak their minds. That was the case Wednesday afternoon when I talked with about 50 seniors at the RiverWoods Retirement Community in Exeter. As you can imagine, there were plenty of questions about the future of Medicare and Social Security. I told them how I am working for changes that will safeguard and protect them for future generations, without changing the benefits for those people who are already at, or nearing, retirement age.

I was also asked about bringing federal spending under control. I explained that we need to cap it, plus reduce the size of the federal workforce through attrition over the coming decade. I told them that I strongly favor adding a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

It was a great discussion, and I look forward to coming back again soon. Thanks to everyone at RiverWoods for inviting me to visit.

A Conversation About Jobs with NH's Transportation Leaders

I was honored to host U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica (R, FL) in Manchester on Friday to discuss jobs and transportation issues. More than two dozen New Hampshire industry officials and elected officials participated in a roundtable meeting. It was a great opportunity for Granite Staters to share the importance of transportation infrastructure and the many jobs supported by it in New Hampshire. The meeting came in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene's damage to roads and bridges in the Mt. Washington Valley and as officials make winter preparations for roads and highways.

Participants updated Chairman Mica on transportation needs in New Hampshire and praised the state Transportation Department's response to last month's tropical storm. In turn, Chairman Mica updated them on the expansion of I-93. Both the Chairman and I emphasized the valuable importance of receiving input from local transportation leaders. I thank Chairman Mica for visiting New Hampshire and appreciate the warm welcome he received here.

Recognizing "Hunger Action Month" with a tour of New Horizons

September was "Hunger Action Month," and I observed it with a tour of New Horizons for New Hampshire in Manchester on Monday morning. It was a pleasure to be given a tour of the facility by the group's executive director and former WGIR radio host Charlie Sherman. New Horizons is an adult homeless shelter, soup kitchen, and food pantry based in Manchester that services hundreds of Granite Staters each month. I encourage you to take a moment and think of what you can do to help those who are less fortunate, especially with the winter months coming up soon.

So, this is what all the pre-publication hype was about. (0.00 / 0)
Of course, I'll go read it. However, the spin I'd put on this story is that Guinta's extortion demands are modest.  What Koch Industries seems to have been after in New England (ergo their support for Scott Brown as well) is the Regional Energy Compact, which, contrary to predictions is actually proving effective in promoting reductions in carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants.

I'm not sure whether Congressional legislation could short circuit regional efforts, but that seems to have been the aim. It was Shea-Porter's service on the Natural Resources Committee that proved a burr under the Koch saddle.

Guinta was a cheap date. The Kochs got what they paid for.

Cheap skate Republicans. It doesn't take much to buy them, but they also don't put out.

Having read all of the Bloomberg piece, I just want to (4.00 / 1)
note that whenever the Koch brothers get in trouble, they try to buy their way out of it. When they run into a competitor for their interests, they gobble him up.  It's predation on a virtual scale.  What makes it pernicious is that the inorganic wastes they spew out, instead of nourishing other creatures as organic wastes generally do, poison living things in their surroundings and, worst of all, the Kochs probably don't even notice. That poisoning God's creatures, including their own kind, is evil doesn't register with people who have no awareness of anyone but themselves.

Rand Paul, all by his lonesome has put a hold on new oil and gas pipeline regulations, of which the industry approves 'cause nobody in their right mind wants a cheater in their midst. The Koch's got rich by cheating.

The article itself overlooks that the artificial fiber companies and Georgia Pacific are recent acquisitions--the latter to put some alternative energy plants out of commission.

Ah, the boys have been busy. (0.00 / 0)
