Edwards for President campaign organizies volunteers for a weekend of "tree canvassing"

by: Amy Rubin

Fri Sep 14, 2007 at 10:48:06 AM EDT

John Edwards has already announced a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. He's stood up and said no to liquid coal and he's announced a commitment to repealing subsidies for big oil companies. But this weekend the New Hampshire Edwards for President campaign is taking John's environmental plans to the next level. We're going to move beyond the policy and the plans and actually take to the streets to deliver 8,000 White Spruce tree seedlings to New Hampshire residents. You can sign up to help deliver the seedlings right here

One of the best things about this campaign and about John Edwards is that he believes that we can take action today, that we don't need to wait until January 2008 to do something to further the changes so many of us want to see.

Amy Rubin :: Edwards for President campaign organizies volunteers for a weekend of "tree canvassing"
This weekend is a perfect example of how the Edwards campaign is furthering an environmental agenda right now by organizing a project that all of us can participate in. The 8,000 White Spruce tree seedlings will be distributed across the sate all day Saturday and Sunday and we need volunteers to come help out with this community-driven project.

Our national campaign manager, Congressman David Bonior, even came in for the weekend to help tree canvass the state. Congressman Bonior distributed White Spruce trees when he ran for Congress in Michigan and is now helping team Edwards carry on the tradition in New Hampshire.

You can volunteer for a tree canvassing shift this weekend: http://johnedwards.c...

giving out saplings for voters to plant...a very nice gift and a thoughtful reminder that "John Edwards has the best approach to fighting climate change of any 2008 Democratic presidential contender, according to an online straw poll of members of the liberal activist group MoveOn.org."

Bummer about the rain, but I saw some of our Dover vols out hitting the pavement this morning (sorry not be joining you, kiddie soccer & ballet today) despite the weather.

Anyway, VERY cool idea, and I like the handout that came with the saplings (yes, I took 2)--light on politics & glitz, heavy on tree care and symbolism.  AND...Who came up with Granite Roots?  Love it.

So my 2 potted white spruces are on the 1/2 done porch for all to see until we figure out the rest of our landscaping.  I look forward to telling the kids "we planted that when President Edwards was in the NH Primary, in 2007!"
