Thank You Jeanne Shaheen for my time on the Green Monster

After promoting the Sox ticket raffle on this site I was very surprised to receive a call on Saturday, July 19th from Dan Swislow telling me I had won the tickets.

I accused him of yanking my chain and a few other things I can't repeat then went nuts planning for my visit to the shrine on top of Fenway.

Thank you Dan.  Thank you Shaheen campaign for a once in a life time evening with my son.  The memories will be with us forever.

I took a Shaheen yard sign with me and used the reverse side for my welcome back Big Papi sign that got on NESN.  I still haven't watched the whole game on TIVO but if I find a video of me holding the Shaheen side up, I will post it.

Here is the vid of NewHampster and my sign.

There's more good stuff on the flip side

We got there for Yankee batting practice.

To get onto the monster you first pick up your tickets at the VIP window where 2 people check you out before getting to the window where they once again ask who, why, how and for ID.

Then we headed for the Monster and found out there are two more levels of security and a hand stamp that allows us onto the wall of dreams.

As we came down to our seats in the front row, on the wall, Doug Flutie was catching flies with a glove.  That was our first inkling that this was more special than we thought.

What a view!  and on swivel seats at your own bar.

There is also plenty of room to stand and when standing you don't block anyone's view because the next row is like 7 feet up. Dan That's where John Kerry and entourage were seated, directly behind us.

I told my 20 year old son, Dan, that's John Kerry and he said "you mean the first person I ever voted for President for?".  Yep.  So sometime in the mid innings Dan goes up with this babe he met and asks for a picture.

So, Kerry's daughter, I think asked me why I had a Shaheen sign at Fenway.  I explained we won the tickets then opened it and showed the reverse to her and JK.

Then We're just sitting watching the game and John Henry, owner of the Red Sox comes down to say hello to folks sitting next to us.  I thanked him for building the best seats in baseball.

So what if the Yankees won a one run game?  We were there for the return of David Ortiz, perfect weather and a beautiful evening.

Thank you Jeanne Shaheen and Mr. M. who donated the tickets to the campaign.

Such a nice diary (4.00 / 1)
A pleasant break from the routine.

Thank you Don, Jeannne and thank you Mr.M.

A side note: My father helped run a neighborhood festival a few time a year, up until he passed away. His principle role was soliciting donations from local businesses, that would be raffled off at these events. The proceeds were put back into a local park, mostly for the kid's playground.

Of course Dad would buy $10-$20 worth of tickets. Over the years, damned if my kids didn't end up with a couple of bikes, my brother with 200 gallons of oil, ect. Anyways, my Dad quit buying tickets 'cause people started teasing him. They had little kids pull the raffles, but Dad didn't enjoy his luck the way his fortunate family members did.

So Don, these things happen. Sometimes repeatedly.

Whack-a-mole, anyone?
