Jealousy

by: Dean Barker

Fri Apr 10, 2009 at 05:57:43 AM EDT

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to have, say, the Dean of the New Hampshire Political Press, on a state-wide newspaper, assist a Democratic candidate in framing and messaging and name recognition in preparation for major run for office?

Sometimes I get jealous about the other side's system.

I guess the editors cut my provided statement: (4.00 / 2)
"Seems like a waste of time to me. Doesn't one have to actually do something to have a record of any kind? Are our streets safer? Our schools better? Our economy stronger? Although I don't know what Frank does each day but is most certainly isn't solving the challenges of the people of Manchester. Good luck to them if they think they can find anything he has done."

Raymond Buckley, State Chair

Democrats solve problems, Republicans sit and say no.

So, it's probably not a secret, but Mr. Guinta is obviously a (0.00 / 0)
person who jumps to conclusions.  How a Freedom of Information Act request is a seal of credibility is a bit difficult to fathom.
Now, if the response is comprehensive and complete, then that might tell us something.

Although I don't actually approve of the DCCC, especially when they presume to decide who our democratic candidates ought to be, FOIA is central to holding public officials to account.  Being reminded that email communications are part of the public record doesn't hurt either.

BTW, although "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence," an absence of records in this instance would suggest an absence of effort.

Don't be jealous. (0.00 / 0)
Bear in mind the unhinged nature of that assistance, and the reputation the Union-Leader has. It's no better than Glenn Beck in that regard, preaching to an ever-shrinking choir and being disregarded as nutty by everyone else.

Besides, the way the newspaper industry is going, the U-L kooks might well be out of work in a couple of years anyhow. Want sports news? Go to ESPN or Sports Illustrated. Want New Hampshire politics? Look to Blue Hampshire or one of the right-wing equivalents (or, not too long ago, PolitickerNH). World or national news? CNN. And so on and so forth. Their days as a profitable business may be numbered. It's not to say they're doomed, but the odds don't seem to favor them.

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!
