NHGOP Uses Reynolds to Validate Sununu's Garbage

by: Dean Barker

Sun Apr 26, 2009 at 11:19:45 AM EDT

Congratulations, Deb Reynolds. You have turned Sununu's bigoted comment into a rallying cry for the NHGOP.

Dorgan:

Republican Party Chairman John H. Sununu drew fire last week for his challenge to Lynch to veto gay marriage and transgender rights, or as it called it, "that garbage."

...Pouring a little salt in the liberal wound, (NHGOP spokesman Ryan) Williams added: "Obviously, the Democrats in the Senate agree with our assessment because as we saw yesterday they have started to reject some of this radical agenda."

This and Mike's Deep Thought are a double whammy.

Oops. (0.00 / 0)
My bad - that was I - forgot to add (Dean). Fixed.

Ah (0.00 / 0)
You two-fisted whammer, you.

It could be said that Sununu has devalued marriage. (4.00 / 1)
That now that opposition to equal marriage has linked itself to the Bigot Sununu that marriage itself has become exclusionary and therefore partisan. Marriage in New Hampshire will represent bigotry. Many people would not be blamed for refusing to get married as long as it retains these associations.

It will also be a rallying cry for Cornerstone and every other social conservative group (4.00 / 1)
Thanks to 'our friends'

I can't believe the (4.00 / 2)
NH GOP wants to keep the "garbage" controversy alive. And I still can't believe that Peter Shumlin from Vermont is the only high ranking political figure to publicly denounce that remark.

People have been calling for civility through the threads on this issue. That "garbage" remark is one of the most immature, uncivil things to come from anywhere in a while.

Doubling down again (4.00 / 1)
They're in love with it as a strategy.

Where has the response been (4.00 / 1)
from NH elected officials over Sununu's remark?

To say it was a bigoted slur.

Not to respond gives the slur life and meaning.

Setting up for failure: Damned if ya don't (4.00 / 5)
I'm afraid that recent events are setting up the NHGOP's talking points for the coming cycle.

"Obviously, the Democrats in the Senate agree with our assessment because as we saw yesterday they have started to reject some of this radical agenda."

What the man means is that NH voters should reject the radical agenda in 2010. They will use talking points along these lines:

- Gov. Lynch is embracing conservative values, not out of character, but out of political cowardice. The Gov knows what the majority of Granite Staters want; that is strong families, less taxes and minimal gov't intrusion in their lives.

- The Senate, also has, out of cowardly political self preservation, shunned the radical agenda of the far left House.

- The election results of the Bradley/Martin race clearly demonstrate the realization of the NH electorate that the kind of "change" Obama promised is not what NH (or America) wants.

- Paul Hodes and Carol Shea Porter are beholden to the San Francisco elitists that care nothing about the real NH. These two liberals are enablers of the radical left, but unlike their associates that work in Concord and are closely watched by NH voters, Hodes & CSP will vote against NH and then come home, trying to spin, spin, spin.

This is a text book divide and conquer strategy. Once the progressive agenda is stalled, the turncoats will be branded, friend to no conservative and certainly suspect in the eyes of progressives.

Mr. Williams is gloating for Sununu, who is feeling his wheaties right, now. If Senate Democrats fold on this issue, they will effectively grease the slope that the NHDP will face in '010.

This is a time for a gut check folks. Your elected officials either have faith in the results last November or not. They either stand by the principles that voters entrusted or they betray them.

There is no political position that can be waffled here. Senators, Chairman Sununu will rhetorically skin you alive which ever way you vote. So, as Rep. Splaine has begged you, vote your conscience. Have the guts to come out strong, behind a principled vote. Then the voters will decide whether you are a person of courage/principle/character. On that, you will earn their next vote. Or not.

this is the moment (4.00 / 2)
If the NH Senate votes down marriage equality, they will be handing the state over to the GOP. They will be playing right into the sweaty hands of Pappa Sununu.

Let's be honest about where this is coming from. I was under the impression that Sylvia Larsen was the Senate President, not John Lynch. If this is how the senate rolls, why do we even need three branches of government?

I don't give a damn about Lynch's personal beliefs. He wasn't elected to impose them on the rest of us. If he's not strong enough to stand up to Pappa S, if he's not strong enough to stand up for civil rights and equality - than he needs to be finding new employment.

Larsen is AWOL. (4.00 / 2)
So is Lynch.

Leadership? Heh.
