I just read this, which I think is brilliant.

They are talking about people dedicated to committing acts of violence and terror who are operating from groups that are historically viewed as right-wing extremist fronts. Quit conflating the two, and for christ sakes help us stop these idiots from shooting more people. When you play these damned games, you provide cover for these fringe lunatics. Stop attacking the DHS for trying to do their job (and I say this as someone who finds the whole idea of the DHS creepy). If anything, the fact that Fox and the Weekly Standard were targeted should make you realize that the lunatic right-wing extremists the DHS report was talking about don't understand the difference between Democrat and Republican.

Mainstreaming Neo-nazis? (4.00 / 1)
How convenient. The extremist right got remarkably far with the Cheney-Bush folks in power. They got pretty clearly booted in November and it still appears that the noxious wind is dropping from their sails. The farthest edges of the hard right now seek to claim legitimacy with their sway over so much of the Republican Party. So now they paint themselves as the oppressed, as the government rightly looks into the very real threats of terror some pose. The killing of the abortion doctor, the attack at the museum. This is a developing narrative with which we ought to be really concerned.

It's not as dramatic as the commentary portrays it, but it's not good.

and Roeder = Rev. Wright.

This is the game and it makes me sick.

The left will prop up the "radical right" meme to counter the "radical left" meme. So, back and forth we go.

The forest is being missed, folks.

There are very dangerous people being wound up by people who should know better. Or maybe they do and don't care. Emperor Bresler forwarded a link to Paul Krugman's column today on this point; I thought he would post it, but hasn't, so here it is:

When I hear whack jobs call the President "false prophet," it reminds me of the "Bable" of the "end of days" loonies.

They called "Dubya" the anti-christ, too.

"False prophet" was bad, but I was more offended when he compared Obama to Julius Caesar.

Um, they started it? (0.00 / 0)
I have mixed feelings. It was the right that tried to politicize the shootings, we did not. It's the old dilemma, respond or don't respond? You can be above the fray, but you can't let them get away with crap like that.

Funny thing is, I listened to the Rush clip on Media Matters. It was absurd, tasteless, all that -- but in the list of issues, he cited, he was right. It was a leftist's set of grievances (or at least, the grievances were more against the Bush administration).

Now of course it shouldn't matter. It was senseless violence, let's leave it at that. But turning the other cheek never seemed to work for us.
