Did you know that Kelly Ayotte is a moderate Republican? JinnipherWMUR Republico told me so:
Getting Ayotte to run would immediately put Republicans in strong contention to hang onto a tough New England seat. Ayotte, known as a moderate Republican, has bipartisan credentials and a law-enforcement background that is compelling to Senate recruiters. She was appointed to the position by former Republican Gov. Craig Benson and re-confirmed by Democratic Gov. John Lynch.
New Hampshire political analyst Jennifer Donahue called her a "dream candidate for the GOP" in a column on the Huffington Post.
There is one thing of interest here. Republico's meme roller notes that "Sen. Judd Gregg is working to recruit" Ayotte.
If that's true, then the Donahue's role in this buzz trial balloon becomes much clearer. A reminder:
Jennifer Donahue, former press secretary for Republican US Senator Hank Brown, is currently the Political Director at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, of which Judd Gregg was "instrumental" in establishing. Senator Gregg also leads NHIOP's Public Advisory Board.
Adding: the Bass quote in that piece is humorous. It basically says, "In a Sununu-less senate scenario, there 'aint no way I'm clearing the field for Ayotte and setling for CD2."
