Open Thread: Christmas in July

by: Dean Barker

Thu Jul 09, 2009 at 07:21:19 AM EDT

Ah, the Benson Era. I look forward with interest in revisiting Kelly Ayotte's role as legal counsel in Governor Hummer's administration. Blaisdell, Pepin, etc... Fun times.

But let's start with Christmas, featuring the CEO Governor, Deputy AG Ayotte, and Civil Rights Leader Kevin Smith. (UL,12/03):

Celebrating Christmas: At the breakfast meeting at the Bridges House before last week's Executive Council meeting, several councilors asked about the musical abilities of Benson administration liaison Kevin Smith. The governor suggested they go to the piano and sing Christmas carols.

The piano was out of tune, but the governor, the councilors, Press Secretary Wendell Packard and Deputy Attorney General Kelly Ayotte all joined in.

And Civil Rights Leader Kevin Smith had his own special carol, in part:
Finally, Gov. Benson, the elves know I'm your number one fan,
Your legacy shall live in New Hampshire lore;
They've carved out your profile to replace the Old Man."
This is an Open Thread.

wasn't it illegal ? (4.00 / 1)
I keep stumbling on this one...as repeated by the recently replumbed DiStaso in his Thursday rehash...
Former Gov. Craig Benson said at the time that when he had re-appointed Lynch as a trustee, "He promised he wouldn't run for political office."

Would it have not been patently illegal to trade with a potential rival, an appointment to the University System in return for a pledge not to run against him ?

It is quite different no, from saying to a woman who has served Republican Governors that you want her to complete her term as Attorney General if you re-appoint her ? DiStaso points out she has already contradicted herself in a Telegraph interview.

But in a separate interview with The Telegraph of Nashua, Ayotte reportedly "said she never promised to serve out the full term, and alluded to the wild changes in New Hampshire politics in 2009."

If the kids can't bop to it, it's bombsville.

All I want for Christmas (4.00 / 2)
is my Senate seat,
my Senate seat,
see my Senate seat.

Gee, if I could only
have my Senate seat,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas!"

That is one sucky memory. (0.00 / 0)
Glad I wasn't in-state at the time.  LOL

I was.. (4.00 / 2)
I was one of the lucky state employees that got to hear Benson tell us to bring our brains to work with us.  Two years later I got to tell Benson (via a quote in the Concord Monitor) that the State Employees brought their brains into the voting booths.

I did a few other fun things to ol Craig, but I'm waiting for the statute of limitations to expire.  Plausible deniability y'all!

Justica para todos.  Justice for all.  Pass it on.

Michele Bachmann or Dana Houle. Hmm... (0.00 / 0)
His candidate is named 'El,' though.
