Some Things I Learned About Kelly Ayotte

by: Dean Barker

Wed Aug 12, 2009 at 11:26:45 AM EDT

...from the Monitor writeup today:

Kelly Ayotte...

* is against a woman's right to choose, just like recently defeated John E. Sununu.

* wants to keep our country safe by making sure people can have guns (like that guy at the POTUS event yesterday?)

* doesn't thinks gays and lesbians should have the same civil rights that she and her husband enjoy, contrary to the (upcoming) law of the land in New Hampshire.

* was for the stimulus package before she was against it.

* believes climate change is real, but she has no real interest in doing anything about it.

See, here's the thing. You can only be a stealth GOP candidate for so long.  Then, once you start taking shape, the public realizes you have the same tired old platform that cost them the elections for two cycles now.

I was actually kind of excited to read about her. But it's clear she has no plans to be an engaging, idiosyncratic thinker with new ideas and solutions, which is exactly what the GOP needs most.

Ayotte made sure that vigilante justice was not prosecuted (4.00 / 1)
when she let Gregory Floyd off the hook for shooting Liko Kenney, less than 24 hours afterwards IIRC.

Floyd's previous and subsequent record of gun threats and outbursts brings Ayotte's judgment in that incident into question.

=Equal rights now!=

What is it you are expecting? (0.00 / 0)
Republicans expect the representatives in Congress to cheer.  That's why Dubya's experience as a cheer leader was perfect.

Again, the 800 lb gorilla (0.00 / 0)
Why no mention of Ayotte's hearty endorsement of using New Hampshire's rarely used death penalty?

Giving the state power to execute citizens, even convicted citizens, is tantamount to giving the state the power to do everything else!

right? (0.00 / 0)
The state can kill you if you break the law, that's justice, but they can't help you get affordable health care if you break your leg, that would be unconscionable. Really, conservatives? That's the hill you want to die on?

A couple of my favorite lines... (4.00 / 1)
"Can you imagine going to a government bureaucrat and asking that person to make decisions about medical care for you or your children?"

Yes, Kelly. Yes I can. It will probably be no different than going to the insurance company bureaucrat that we all have to deal with now. How are we all not laughing at ridiculous statements like that?

"When a reporter asked how to improve public safety on a federal level, Ayotte talked about supporting members of the military when they returned from overseas, ensuring they have proper health care."

Umm. Ok. Did you not hear the question? I never realized that underinsured military vets were such a menace to society.

"Can you imagine going to a government bureaucrat (4.00 / 3)
and asking that person to make decisions about medical care for you or your children?"

Our experience in New Hampshire was much more scary.

We didn't ask, in fact the Governor asked her not to, but a government bureaucrat tried to step in between the doctor and the patient.

That bureaucrat's name was Kelly Ayotte.
