Where's Judd Gregg on Death Panels?

by: Dean Barker

Mon Aug 17, 2009 at 17:07:40 PM EDT

When will Judd Gregg speak about whether "Death Panels" is a legitimate criticism or not?

He doesn't need to host the town hall meeting he isn't actually holding to address it.

But his silence on the Death Panel lie is abhorrent.  If he's not going to bring reason to his own party, he's worse than liars like Chuck Grassley.

Hard to fathom that in 2009 I'm more disgusted with the GOP than when Bush ruled us all.

Judd's Whereabouts (0.00 / 1)
He must be going 3-way on some Martha's Vineyard time share along with Shea-Porter and Hodes because they are nowhere to be found as well.

Why won't any of them hold a town-hall meeting? Oops. Let me rephrase that: Why won't any of them hold a town-hall meeting in person and in their own state?

Perhaps it might be constructive for our reps to actually try and sell the people on the idea? Do you really think death panels and misinformation is stopping this from going forward or is it the fact nobody has any idea what this bill entails? (most notably congress)

We elected Shea-Porter to promote Medicare for All. (0.00 / 0)
So, it's not like her constituents need to be "sold."  Congressman Wiener was on the TV yesterday defining that as single payer, but the verbiage hasn't been persuasive.  Which is why I've suggested Opt-in Medicare to emphasize the optional aspect of Medicare and that we're not stepping away from it.

It seems one reason conservatives attack language is to discourage the public from using the same words.  Verbal domination is their shtick--when a normal tone of voice doesn't work, they shriek.

Hodes had a few town halls in early August. (0.00 / 0)
I'm a touch disappointed that CSP hasn't had any, but it's not like she doesn't make herself available to constituents.

I know there are no TV cameras or wingnut glory to be found when you visit your rep's office and have a conversation with them about your concerns, but I guess FreedomWorks will just have to get over it.

Corporate Dog

I think there's a CSP event in Portsmouth this evening. n/t (0.00 / 0)

a better question (0.00 / 0)
might be, why should they have a town hall meeting? Oh, wait - it's so you folks can have an opportunity to strut, wave racist signs, and model this year's gun chic for the media.

Hard to fathom that in 2009 I'm more disgusted with the GOP than when Bush ruled us all.

Too true.  Next to the Palins and Becks, Bush almost appears to be a voice of reason.

Almost.

Bush Two was a puppet. We knew that. That's the advantage (0.00 / 0)
of having a sovereign--power can be wielded unseen, from behind the throne.  It used to be that the court jester stood to one side.  In Bush Two, the king and the joker were rolled into one.

Theory (0.00 / 0)
Maybe he's angling to be on one so he can not show up for it.

No need... DOA (0.00 / 0)
No need for futher noise.  Real healthcare reform died yesterday... Holding meeting are now a moot question... Even for Guinta.

Gregg practices punditry (0.00 / 0)
Gregg is working on his chops 'cause he just doesn't have the legs to be a Fox News anchor.
Well, I think the real question is - if there is a bipartisan bill that comes out of the Senate, and there may well be, because the Baucus-Grassley group is working hard, you've got the Wyden-Bennett bill as you mentioned, which is bipartisan - how do you preserve the bipartisan elements of that bill when you go to conference with the House and you've got people like Speaker Pelosi who are absolutely committed to having the government take over the system? And that I think is the great, is the big hurdle here.

In other words, why would people sign onto a bill in the Senate if they know that the Speaker of the House and the President's people are going to torpedo that bill and move towards the government plan when it gets into conference?

So unless the President comes out and says he's for the bipartisan bill as it leaves the Senate, and he's going to stand by that bill as it goes to conference, I don't think you're going to get a bill here.

My, my. Looks like Howard Dean is driving the narrative. It must be or they wouldn't have rolled out the Greggster. His flinty New Englander brand just reaks of "Ye Ol'Yankee bipartisan."

According to today's (4.00 / 2)
UL, Gregg is holding two meetings, although not Town Hall meetings today. One is in Salem at the Salem Senior Center, 1 Sally Sweet's Way, Salem at 9am. This is open to the public. The other is being held at the Red Hook Brewery at 12:15pm, Pease International Tradeport, 35 Corporate Drive. That meeting is a luncheon sponsored by the Portsmouth Rotary, and is invitation only. It will be interesting to see who, if anyone shows up to "protest".

I wonder whether he will answer Dean's question as well as whether he believes the "protests" at other Congresspeople's Town Halls are legitimate.
