Not to distract Blue Hampshire readers from vintage REM and other summer pleasures, but if you've been thinking about getting involved in the NH ground campaign to win affordable, quality health care for all, right now would be a good time. SEIU's Change That Works campaign and Organizing for America are coordinating a whole slew of events and actions in the next 3-4 weeks, and needless to say, we can definitely use your support.
If you live in the greater Seacoast region, you can find out about upcoming actions and volunteer opportunities by subscribing to the Seacoast for Change mailing list. (Unfortunately, we've had to alter the settings on our mailing list group page so only subscribers can read messages on the web; subscribe by sending your name and a valid email address to seacoastforchange@gmail.com). Organizing for America volunteers are canvassing and making a ton of phone calls to re-engage former campaign volunteers - the best way to get in the loop is to say "yes" to an invitation to take action or attend an event, and then show up.
And now for some shameless self-promotion: I sat down with the hosts of Wake Up AMerica last Thursday to talk about how progressive organizations are mobilizing this summer to support President Obama's priorities for health insurance reform, and how you, dear reader, can get involved. (The show was recorded in the studio of WSCA - Portsmouth Community Radio.) You can open the podcast here.
Sadly, we can no longer post announcements about scheduled events and actions on the Seacoast for Change blog, but you can read our fan mail from the tea party crowd and still find photos and recaps of our latest actions and events.
Since mainstream media continue to under-report the amazing amount of pro-reform grassroots organizing that's going on in the Granite State (and elsewhere around the country), what's actually happening on the ground is easy to miss. We're still out there, and we're still fighting the good fight. So join us, and let's get it done.
