NH-Gov: The New Face of the NHGOP Emerges

by: Dean Barker

Sat Aug 29, 2009 at 18:36:34 PM EDT

John Lynch has a challenger:
Dover businessman Jack Kimball, better known as the "sign guy" on the Portsmouth Rotary, intends to become the first Republican to announce his candidacy for governor.
Kimball, who enjoys life with the Tea Party set, is preparing for the worst:
He also bought "as much ammo as I could get my hands on."

"I think we have serious things coming," said Kimball, who is adopting a survivalist mentality by adding generators at his home and planning for worst case scenarios.

I originally was going to pass on posting this, since under normal circumstances it concerns a fringe candidate and it's not worth adding to the echo chamber.

But then in my car today while flipping stations I heard National GOP Boss Rush Limbaugh talking about "Obama's march to fascism." And then I thought about how many millions of people listen to Boss Limbaugh's political version of professional wrestling every day.

And then it hit me: even here in New Hampshire, the fringe is now the Republican party. The Walter Petersons of the state that weren't already turned away by George W. Bush are now being disappeared by the world of Sad Clown Glenn Beck and Facebook Governor Sarah Palin.

This would be news to celebrate if it weren't so frightening.

These people are nuts (4.00 / 2)
Can you imagine what Teddy Roosevelt, Nelson Rockefeller, Arthur Vandenberg, Henry Stimson, Elihu Root, Gil Winant, Everett Dirksen, Fiorello La Guardia, and other leading Republican icons of the twentieth century would say if they were alive today?  I can:

Our Republican Party -- once a home for principled fiscal conservatives who wanted a limited but accountable government -- has been taken over by Bircher wack jobs.  These people do not do justice to conservative values, and they hurt our country.  We disown them.

It's hard to believe that Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush are comparative moderates in this environment.  But it speaks volumes as to why the NH GOP has been sinking faster than the Andrea Doria.

For Sure Jack Doesn't Like Me (4.00 / 2)
So sad.

However, the guy will have a dedicated right-wing populist following, some numbers for sure. This genuine wacko is way to the right of the Birchers, I assure you.

If the deflated party's apparatus can't get it together to sell a traditional Republican, Kimball's anti-American-principles, seething fringe may end up with Jack as the nominee.

I don't think that's a good thing.

No'm Sayn?

Good. (4.00 / 1)
The longer the sad little remnant of NH right-wingers continue tossing up hopeless whackadoodles for their sacrificial lambs against Governor Lynch, the more it solidifies them in everyone's mind as 'That party of nutjobs like Joke Kelly and Joke Kenney.' And now to add to that collection, Joke Kimball!

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!

The naked empire didn't just pop up. That there was a whole (4.00 / 1)
army of nuts backing Bush/Cheney up just sort of got missed.

My statement on Friday... (4.00 / 3)
"Until recently it would have been difficult to take a person like Jack Kimball seriously as the Republican candidate for governor of NH but not any longer. With the rapid decline of the NH Republican Party,  Kimball speaks for what is left of the tattered minority party, Kimball represents their radical agenda without question. Inspired by the rants of  Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh the radical fringe that control's the minority party will embrace Kimball's candidacy. It is clear that Sununu is assembling a terrific 2010 ticket for another Democratic landslide."
