Don't Give Up The Fight-Open Thread

Teddy would understand because he never dogged an election...you got to stand up for peoples' rights. Never think you've got it won, that's rule one in campaigns I've been on. Never assume you've won.
Martha Coakley in Oblerman's words,'bought the stamps and mailed it in' in referring to her concession speech, and her campaign.

On one level we have to wait for the gaming of Congress, as it now congeals anew.
Meanwhile back in the real world...

'now you've seen the light...you gotta stand up for your rights"

Martha ran her campaign like Jeb (4.00 / 3)
Jeb Bradley' losses to Carol Shea-Porter were not just about Carol's win; it was also because Jeb ran horrible campaigns.

Coakley's defeat was not just an anti-Obama, anti-health care referendum.

Coakley also ran a horrible campaign. She obviously read Jeb's book "How to lose a campaign."

As someone said on WBUR, Coakley made Dukakis seem like James Brown.

ironically she used to be ferocious (0.00 / 0)
She was a famously ferocious prosecutor when she was the Middlesex District Attorney.  She sent many murderers to jail.  I don't know what got into her this time.

A disciplinarian does not necessarily a caring public servant make. (0.00 / 0)
Speaking personally, I did not like her attitude or tactics in the Louise Woodward episode.  The judge who sent Louise home apparently didn't either and a recent review of the evidence seems to validate Louise's probable innocence.  I think what I didn't like was Coakley using Louise's admission that she'd shaken the baby a little when it appeared lifeless as a lie to cover up her negligence or criminal intent.  But, that's because I'm skeptical of the trend in law enforcement to rely on the statements of individuals suspected of criminal behavior, instead of collecting objective evidence of their malfeasance.  Why would one believe the statements of a criminal defendant?  There's a good practical reason why confessions are not to be extracted.  Even the voluntary ones should not be believed.

During the British inquiry into the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the proponents are now reduced to arguing it was justified because Saddam Hussein admitted during his interrogation that he still retained the intent to reconstitute his WMD, even though he had none and the programs had been dismantled for a decade.

I suppose his desire to acquire is what made him credible.  A person who has no material ambitions is to be feared because one can never tell what a person who's not fixated on acquiring things will do.  Poverty used to be considered a virtue until it turned out that the poor are really difficult to control.

For me, a few hours ago, this campaign came to an end. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

Annie 2012!

last night (4.00 / 1)
About 25 folks braved the weather to come out and hear Ann McLane Kuster at a house party in Bow. Great turnout and reception considering...Rep.Jeff Goley came and also spoke well and helped his candidacy...I think it was the first opportunity many had to meet him.

"It would be shameful if you let the politicians travel the safe middle ground to victory." (4.00 / 1)
"It would be shameful if you let the politicians travel the safe middle ground to victory. For if they are to govern well, they need to be forced out of their safe harbors and into the storms that challenge the ship of state. Rarely can we stand at a point in history and say, before the fact, 'This is a turning point...'. We are at one of those points. But whether we really turn is up to you." - Sen. Edward M Kennedy
