House Dems Agree with Judd Gregg on Majority Rule

by: Dean Barker

Wed Jan 27, 2010 at 05:53:49 AM EST

The House increasingly moving toward the "Senate bill + reconciliation" finish to health care reform:
"That would be a good option as far as I'm concerned," said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), leader of the House progressives' health care task force. "I could support it. Reconciliation. Majority rule."

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA)--one of the key architect's of the House health care bill--gives it the high sign. "I think reconciliation's an appropriate way to proceed on reconciling the budget requirements," he said. "It's available to us. That was very specifically handled that way when we passed the budget."

Bush-era Judd Gregg agrees!
"The point, of course, is this: If you have 51 votes for your position, you win," Gregg told his Senate colleagues on the floor.

He added, "Reconciliation is a rule of the Senate (that) has been used before for purposes exactly like this on numerous occasions... Is there something wrong with majority rules? I don't think so."

It would be really nice if President Obama also agreed with this bi-partisan sentiment tonight.
