Thanks, Steve Benen, again

Steve Benen, by far the most valuable source for this Democrat these days for national politics, notes an editorial in the WaPo today from AEI of all places!
bloomingpol :: Thanks, Steve Benen, again
And while the economic recovery package was the most important legislative accomplishment of the last year, Ornstein also highlights successful bills on expanding children's health insurance, providing stiff oversight of the TARP funds, regulating tobacco, the largest land conservation law in nearly two decades, a credit card holders' bill of rights, and defense procurement reform.

I call this to your attention only because we are all so pissed at Congress at this point that perhaps an occasional step back would be useful.  I keep doing this in numerous venues because I think we sometimes create negative feedback loops and get ourselves to places that don't really leave much way out.

...and the Matthew Shepard / James Byrd Hate Crimes Law. (4.00 / 1)

2012 starts today.

While I was quite distressed to discover that the (0.00 / 0)
nation's obsession with the President's dalliances had managed to distract almost everyone from the preparations for invading and occupying Iraq (plans on the shelf for 14 enduring bases take a while to draw up), I have come to appreciate that some of our media are in the entertainment business and substantive legislation can't compete in the 'bread and circuses' arena.

So, it's one thing to distract to disguise nefarious enterprise, and another to give the audience what it wants.  I think the Rev. Wright matter went on so long because there was an audience for it.  What was important is that, unlike Kerry by the Swifties, Obama didn't premit himself to be derailed by the side-show.
