Tea Party Spokesperson?

by: Dean Barker

Tue Feb 02, 2010 at 05:54:51 AM EST

There's a new advertisement for article about the New Hampshire Tea Party Coalition's plans to "crash" the President's event in Nashua today "inside and outside". You'll never guess the author:
The aftermath of Obama sending his budget to Congress Monday will be felt throughout his town hall meeting in New Hampshire as conservative and independent voters plan to crash his event inside and outside Nashua High School Tuesday.

The heaviest promotion of Obama's visit to the rock hard Granite State has been by those opposed to his budget plan for 2011. nhteapartycoalition.org has been routing people directly to the White House registration site for the event, which has been flooded with requests and closed before it's Saturday 5pm deadline.

The budget was unveiled after Donahue's unsourced implication that the the Tea People are responsible for the registration site closing on Saturday, but that's of little consequence.

The larger point is that there is a refreshing candor to the partisan leaning of her writing now. This is a step in the right direction.

Occurs to me that an easy way to derail events (4.00 / 1)
in the era of "reservation" is to have a national movement reserve tickets early and then not show up, thereby creating an empty hall.

Don't think this works with a POTUS event -- too many people waiting in the wings. But wonder in general what protections are in place for this sort of denial of service attack.

No problem (4.00 / 3)
And no screaming at them - so what if some people show up who don't like the President? They are still citizens. Plus, I think the President is more than capable of talking with them.

Obama's Remarks (0.00 / 0)
The following remarks are excerpts from remarks President Barak Obama will make at today's town hall forum in Nashua as provided by the White House.

Jobs will be our number one focus in 2010. And we're going to start where most new jobs do - with small businesses. These are the companies that begin in basements and garages when an entrepreneur takes a chance on his dream, or a worker decides it's time she became her own boss.

...

Small businesses like this have created roughly 65 percent of all new jobs over the past decade and a half. And I think we should make it easier for them to open their doors, expand their operations, and hire more workers. That's why I've proposed a new tax credit for more than one million small businesses that hire new workers or raise wages - and a tax incentive for all businesses to invest in new plants and equipment. And while we're at it, we should eliminate all capital gains taxes on small business investment, so these folks can get the capital they need to grow and create jobs.

...

That's particularly critical right now, as bank lending standards have tightened, and many small businesses are struggling to get loans.

...

That's why today, I'm announcing a proposal to take $30 billion of the money that was repaid by Wall Street banks, and use it to create a new Small Business Lending Fund that will provide capital for community banks on Main Street. These are the small, local banks that work most closely with our small businesses - that provide them their first loan, and watch them grow through good times and bad. The more loans these banks provide to creditworthy small businesses, the better a deal we'll give them on capital from this Fund. Combined with my proposal back in December to continue waiving fees and increasing guarantees for SBA-backed loans, this will help small banks do even more of what our economy needs - ensure that small businesses are once again the engine of job growth in America.

Administration Announces New $30 Billion Small Business Lending Fund
Today, the President called on Congress to create a new Small Business Lending Fund. Under this proposal, $30 billion in TARP funds would be transferred, through legislation, to a new program outside of TARP to support small business lending. This new program complements other SBA lending initiatives the President has already announced - including support for higher SBA loan limits and extending Recovery Act provisions for higher loan guarantees and temporary fee eliminations - as well as tax cuts to encourage small businesses to invest, hire and raise their workers' salaries. These efforts for small business are a critical part of the President's overall approach to supporting job creation.
