Nothing Ever Changes: John DiStaso's Republican Status

by: Dean Barker

Thu Feb 04, 2010 at 06:05:00 AM EST

For your viewing pleasure, I've put together a Table of Contents, with summary, for today's Republican Status:
I. JOHN'S GETTING SERIOUS. Prominently placed GOP message testing for gubernatorial non-candidate candidate John Stephen.

II. RICH IS IN. An opportunity for GOP NH-02 01 candidate Rich Ashooh to pre-deflect his military-industrial war lobbying, while at the same time softening the blow of Guinta's disastrous fundraising quarter.

III. KELLY ON THE AIR. A nice news bulletin on Kelly Ayotte's latest campaign doings.

IV. BENDER ON TV.  Ditto for Jim Bender.

V. WHICH IS IT? Oh dear, a bit of controversy here, in which DiStaso gives Ayotte's campaign manager plenty of space to smooth out a criticism from Binnie.  In turn, Binnie himself is accused of flip-flopping. WARNING: This final section contains two sentences referencing the NHDP and Paul Hodes.

In other news, Democrats hold three out of four seats in the federal delegation, the majority in the House and Senate, and the governor's office.  The President of the United States, Democrat Barack Obama, visited the state two days ago.

Adding: This column reminds me of why I got into blogging in the first place four years ago.  The odd contradiction of living in a progressive community in New Hampshire, but surrounded by a right-wing state media culture.  Except in 2006 Republicans, with the exception of John Lynch, ruled everything.

Is John Lynch A Uniquely Unifying Governor? (0.00 / 0)
Folks gripe, but who else could really have locked up the corner office in this politcal climate?

I'll admit some ignorance on this. There may be a long line up. More importantly though, who will fill his shoes in the coming years?

It would have to be a transitional figure that could build off of Lynch's style.

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

"We live in the greatest state in the greatest country in the world." John does not give a speech without saying this. Every time. He means it. He loves this state and its people. No artifice. What you see is what you get.

Another DC Candidate (0.00 / 0)
I loved the Status on Johnny Stephen!  He basically called himself the Washington establishment candidate. He wants to be elected to office so desperately that he is allowing Haley Barbour to flatter him into running. If he were smart (note the use of the word "if") he would realize that running against John Lynch is a losing proposition, and that once he loses this race, his career in electoral politics is over with a capital "O".

The fact that Johnny is the RGA's candidate shows how bad things are for them in the governor's race - a guy who lost to Jeb Bradley in two primaries who was a failure as head of HHS.

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."  Franklin D. Roosevelt

A New Hampshire candidate flaunting his ties to Haley Barbour? (0.00 / 0)
This Haley Barbour?

There's a winning strategy.
