Your Republican House Members at work, Wiggling Around Edition

She talks as if the state was mandating Anal Sex. No Rep. Elliot,  all we the people of NH (Gay, Straight and In-between) want is the same civil rights for all citizens in matters where the state is granting rights and benefits. What consenting adults do with themselves in the privacy of their homestead is their business. I thought that was a Republican value, you know less government?

Nashua Telegraph takes down the claim of the mechanics of such being taught in the 5th grade... it has all the hallmarks of an internet hoax. Next up, I'm sure she will convene a committee to investigate Facebook's plans to  start charging 3.99/month starting in June, I'm sure one of her constituents has told her about that.

It would be funny if it was not so scary that the likes of Rep. Elliot and Rep. Baldersaro will be in positions of power should the house loose its Dem Majority next November.

What legal recourse do the 5th grade teachers of Nashua (4.00 / 3)
have, if any, against Rep. Eliot's slander?

Forget the utter vacuity of the NSFW part - it's the he said/she said accusations about teachers that greatly concern me about someone purporting to be a public servant.

Rep. Elliot (4.00 / 3)
is from Merrimack. It seems quite unlikely that a mother from Nashua would be speaking to her about this. If Rep. Elliot believed it to be true, why didn't she contact the school?

She's a pervert.

From the Telegraph: (4.00 / 3)
[Superintendent] Conrad said he left a message for Elliott on Friday morning and has not yet heard back.

"We're not sure how this has come to Rep. Elliott's attention," Conrad said. "As a state representative, if she became aware of a concern from a parent about inappropriate subject matter, I would think she would have a responsibility to call us. To my knowledge, she hasn't done that."

Conrad said there is health instruction in the elementary schools, but it focuses on health and nutrition.

"Sexual preference and relationships are not part of the elementary school health curriculum," Conrad said.

I'm wondering what Rep. Eliot would do if someone made that claim about her.

Seriously, those teachers should consider legal action, if there is any to be had.

Mike -- Your Final Paragraph... (4.00 / 1)
...is the thing to most worry about, and should be a rallying cry for us all.

We know we're in for a tough election year because of the misinformation circulated by our opposition instate and nationally, and the greed of lobbyists ranging from the anti-health care groups to the anti-Global Climate Change ignorants.

We have work to do to prevent your final paragraph warning from happening. Thanks for reminding us.

Ms. Eliot (4.00 / 1)
I would think it would be appropriate for an investigation of Ms. Eliot's accusation, and if it is found that she made it up, she should be disciplined or censured.  I would hope her constituents would demand she resign or be recalled.  This woman is evil.

Two points-- (0.00 / 0)
the state does not "grant" rights.  Human rights are either natural or God-given.  Civil rights define the obligations and powers of those who govern--i.e. citizens.

representative is not a position of power.  Representation is an agency function, a fancy term for servant.  If the likes of Eliot and Baldasaro don't understand that, they should not be continued in office.

There are people who think that the state is a secular back-up for establishments of religion, available to coerce what persuasion doesn't achieve.  That's an error.

Good points (0.00 / 0)
Rights absolutely are natural or God-given, not granted by the state. Personally, I really think the state shouldn't have anything to do with marriage at all. People should be free to have whatever (consensual) relationship they want, call it what they want, and Elliott and others would have a right to call it what they want as well. We get along just fine without state mandated definitions of "friendship", "dating", "boyfriend/girlfriend" etc, after all.

It's when we make these issues political footballs, and assume that there must be a one single solution to be imposed on everyone, that we create these unnecessary conflicts.

Wow. (4.00 / 1)
We are small potatoes, and late to the party. This thing has hit the upper stratosphere of blogworld:

Wonkette

HuffPo

dKos

and just about every LGBT blog on the planet.

BlueHampshire Exclusive (4.00 / 6)
Being cast as an unwilling supporting actor, I can give BH a small blogosphere exclusive--what "that woman on the right" wrote was

oh, mercy.

BTW, the full debates on CACR 28 and HB 1590 are also up on YouTube, in four segments, titled NH House Judiciary Cmte on Marriage, part 1 through part 4.

You deserve hazzard pay! (4.00 / 4)
I felt bad for you Lucy.

Thank you but.. (4.00 / 3)
No need to feel bad.  I do rather wish my bad hair day had not gone viral on the internet, and had I known what was to come I might have opted for histrionics rather than frozen decorum.  On the plus side,  having a record of the Nashua school remarks has produced some very satisfactory results.  She so seldom puts in any identifying details for her horror stories.

On the hazard front, my mother was a Hazard.  Literally.

Lucy -- But You're A Wonderful "Supporting Actor..." (4.00 / 1)
That you were there was so important to us.  To the left, by the way, is Rep. Paul Hackel of Nashua, yet another great supporter for marriage quality.  [It's so good to see Lucy and Paul there, and watch their reactions and disgust.]

Remember when... (0.00 / 0)
There was a celebrity telethon/fundraiser/thing to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina, and Kanye West said that President Bush didn't care about black people?

Remember how Mike Myers had to stand there awkwardly while it happened?

Invasion of Teh Gays (4.00 / 1)
Don't get distratced by the potty mouth. What Rep.Eliot is spreading is fear that gay activism is spreading, via public schools, into the fertile minds of children.

This is so "Glenn Beck" on so many levels.
Gay = Radical, San Francisco agenda
5th grade = Indoctrination of children (see communism)
Public School = Unions, opposite of home schools

The graphic scene will cause tongues to wag, but right wing nutbags will accept her portrayal enroute to a condemnation of ALL that "Teh Gay" stands for.

The dog whistle must not be loud enough. Rep. Eliot is turning it up to eleven.

In her bio from the Handbook of NH Elected Officials (4.00 / 1)
for 2009/2010, Representative Elliot claims that "preserving our personal liberty" is one of her highest priorities.

Would this be the freedom to peep into other people's bedrooms and discuss their sex lives?

As I am wont to say: if people only knew what went on in Concord, and saw their legislators in action, they would be so horrified.

You gotta be kidding me... (4.00 / 1)
This has to be CGI. I refuse to believe that a professional member of our legislature would actually say something that ignorant,

What's that? Oh, she actually said that?

I give up...

This embarrassment is way to the right of New Hampshire, and... (0.00 / 0)
Let's not forget that the same Supreme Court that gave us Bush v. Gore also gave us Lawrence v. Texas.

Comment (4.00 / 3)
My hometown has often frustrated me, but I just wanted to say something since i've had about half a dozen facebook friends talk about it.

Nancy Elliott's views are in the minority in Merrimack since the dark days of the 1990s. Recently, our Town Council voted against the organized bigotry movement trying to use NH's town meetings for its own purposes here in Merrimack.
