Incredible

Kevin Landrigan implies that Governor Lynch's call for an investigation into Vermont Yankee is a political gimmick meant to help Paul Hodes's senate bid, and by extension his own fourth-term effort.

This is the traditional media climate Democrats work under in New Hampshire.

The saddest thing is that almost nothing has changed about this media culture since I started paying attention four years ago, with the exception of more Pindell, and less Dorgan.

Poor understanding of cause and effect. (0.00 / 0)
The problem, I think, lies in a poor understanding of the relationship between cause and effect.  That, in turn, may be the result of a deficiency in tracking the sequence of events.  If linear thinking is not available, then mixing up past, present and future and action and motivation is perhaps inevitable.
One strategy for addressing the dilemma created by never knowing what's up is to simply assign responsibility for action somewhere else.  If you don't know that B follows A and C comes next, then you might just as well pick a number for a change.

In this case, motivation serves as filler for the unknown parts of the required story components (past, present, future).  When two of the three components are unknown, then the story is bound to be fanciful.

I'm delighted to hear (4.00 / 1)
that public safety has been relegated to campaign gimmicks by the chattering class.  What's needed is competition from a real media source here in NH.  We have the same problem here in the tri-city area of Dover, Rochester, Portsmouth, with the Foster's Daily Dose of Democrat Bashing jumping on Republican talking points.

The good news is that in spite of these windbags, we have a Democrat controlled legislature, 3/4 Democrat Congressional Delegation, and a Democrat as Governor.  What has changed, Dean, is the influence of the print media.

What scares me is what fills the void.

Did you know (4.00 / 1)
that Vermont Yankee went online in 1973, and that it was shut down 19 times during its first 17 months of operation?

There were faulty fuel rods, a cracked torus, and in 1976, an accidental release of 83,000 gallons of tritium contaminated water into the Connecticut River.

You probably don't know this, because the Kevin Landrigans of the world are too busy trying to use this is a political football, as opposed to writing about the very serious public safety issues.  VT Yankee has a history of problems and safety issues - which we the public ought to be hearing about, especially in light of Entergy's attempts to relicense this faulty dinosaur for another 20 years.

Wonder when (4.00 / 1)
the last time Landrigran or any other in the State Media took step in Hindsdale?

It could break off and float down the Connecticut and most folks east of Temple Mt. would never know or care.

Hope >> Fear

Visited family in Marlboro, VT today. (4.00 / 1)
The number one issue there - Vermont Yankee.

But really, our governor just spoke up to drive up Ayotte's negatives.  Nothing to see here, move along.
