Nancy's Bill

by: Dean Barker

Wed Feb 17, 2010 at 08:42:53 AM EST

Best headline of 2010?
House to vote on Nancy's bill

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Opponents of gay marriage are asking the House to repeal New Hampshire's six-week-old law legalizing the unions.

They also want the House to back a proposed constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

The House votes on both measures Wednesday. The Judiciary Committee is recommending that the two proposals be killed.

Of course, also, what Jim said.

did they change the headline? (0.00 / 0)
When I click the link, it says, "House to vote on gay marriage bill."

Yes (0.00 / 0)
They changed it about 30 minutes ago.  I can imagine the calls they got from the anti crowd.

Technically (0.00 / 0)
it's not "Nancy's Bill"

From the House Website:

HOUSE BILL 1590-FN

AN ACT repealing same sex marriage.

SPONSORS: Rep. Baldasaro, Rock 3; Rep. Ulery, Hills 27; Rep. Gionet, Graf 3; Rep. Kappler, Rock 2; Rep. Villeneuve, Hills 18

COMMITTEE: Judiciary

This is our "Bathroom Bill" moment.

What I was pointing out, (0.00 / 0)
albeit not very clearly, is that it is a tactical error to make this about Nancy Elliot. She is outspoken, she is out there, but she is not, by any means alone.

She is the mainstream of today's Republican Party.

I am still against referring to bills as "bathroom bill" or whatever. I didn't like it when it was coined and I don't like it now.

If we had full scale equal and human rights for all in this world, we could afford to joke about it. Right now,  IMO, it's not so funny.

Come to find out it was actually someone's sense of humor at the Associated Press from what I understand. "Nancy" Elliott will always be associated with this bill thanks to her ill-advised  speech before the Judiciary Committee.

Someone at the Telegraph, More Likely (0.00 / 0)
Editors at the local paper put the headlines on AP stories.

Thank you again! (0.00 / 0)
The absurdity of the situation occured to me today while waiting for the results:

Why should my happiness, security, and love be dependent upon the votes of a legislature?
