Who is out of touch?: Misrepresentations, lies, ignorance and spin

Ignoring the 40 Republicans who voted to preserve marriage equality, Cornerstone's Kevin Smith told the AP: ""It is quite clear that this Legislature is just completely out of touch with the will of the people, who want to the right to have their say on the issue of gay marriage," [Smith] said Wednesday after the vote on the amendment. "The bottom line though is they are going to get their say at the ballot box this November when they get to elect new officials who represent their interests and not those of the far left lobby."

"Rep. Alfred Baldasaro, a...sponsor of the repeal bill, said gay marriage goes against natural law. Gays choose to be gay, he said. "A black person cannot change the color of their skin, but a homosexual can change their sexual preference any time," he added." http://www.boston.com/news/loc...

Even the Union Leader's editorial writer, Drew Cline noted that something was amiss: "Another factor hurting opponents' efforts to undo same-sex marriage: some of the opponents. Rep. Al Baldasaro, R-Londonderry, claimed the state was selling babies to homosexual couples for $10,000 each. Rep. Nancy Elliot, R-Merrimack, accused the Nashua public schools of teaching gay sex to fifth-graders. There are sound reasons for opposing same-sex marriage, but you wouldn't know it from listening to such comments." http://www.unionleader.com/art...

The legislature and the public are not falling for your shenanigans.

I Tried REAL Hard... (4.00 / 4)
...after AB said that I could change any time.  When he said that on the House floor, I was standing near the rear of the Chamber with a group of other Legislators.  I closed my eyes and visualized and tried real hard to change.  When I opened my eyes, no change.  I just couldn't do it.  I guess I needed a magic wand.

Next time I see him I'll tell him that I like myself just the way I am, thank you.

ask him to change to gay to prove his contention (4.00 / 3)

ahem, Drew Cline? (4.00 / 4)
There are no sound reasons for opposing marriage equality. There are only 2 reasons ever given: 1) religion 2) eeeuw. Neither of these are sound reasoning.

Apparently, there are many sound reasons to oppose (0.00 / 0)
ALL marriage.  Whatever they are, they likely account for the fact that 51% of American adults are now single.
For some reason, some people have a need to impose their own choices on others.  In this case, not being responsible for anyone's welfare but one's own seems to be perceived as challenged by people who commit themselves to the welfare and happiness of others.

Elliott apologizes - again (0.00 / 0)
But still refuses to be interviewed: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com...

NH pol recants her lies (4.00 / 1)
From 365Gay.com. While the column does not add any new information about Elliot, it does have some interesting comments about the National Organization for Marriage:

"And while we are on the topic on people who are forgetful with the truth, Maggie Gallagher and Andrew Sullivan  went at it yesterday at a Cato Institute panel. Gallagher said her organization, the National Organization for Marriage, had out gay members working for it. When Sullivan pressed for their names, she clammed up. Gays and lesbians working for NOM?! Really!? Ms. Gallagher here is a challenge. 365Gay wants to interview these folk.  Give us a call and lets set it up."

Precise definitions: (4.00 / 1)
They are "out" as gay.

But ask about working for Maggie Gallagher, and they cower in the closet.

(If these folks exist. But Maggie wouldn't fib!)

I bet (0.00 / 0)
they only talk to each other, and eventually do not realize how out of the mainstream they are, and how offensive the sane rest of us find them.  They convince themselves they are the majority and the mean Dems/liberals/commies are imposing on them.

Makes you want to feel so sorry for them...NOT!

We believe in prosperity & opportunity, strong communities, healthy families, great schools, investing in our future and leading the world by example. We are Democrats; we are the change you're looking for.

I'm not sure that NH Civil Rights Commissioner Smith.. (0.00 / 0)
... understands that in this role is to suppose to work on behalf of the people of this state to defend our civil rights, not be a cheerleader for the pro-discrimination crowd.

Someone needs to buy him a clue.

The right to free association is not a civil right; (0.00 / 0)
it's a human right which the Constitution obligates the agents of government to respect.
Civil rights are those which relate to a citizen's participation in governing (voting, holding office, serving on juries, drafting legislation, etc.)
That our public corporations are obligated to serve ("may" or "must" do this or the other thing) is apparently not well understood be people who think they have been selected to rule.
Conservatives see public officials serving in loco parentis, rather than as agents or stewards of public assets.  It's not clear what is so difficult to understand about "public servant."  Perhaps their difficulty is related to a misunderstanding of the parental role as a minor potentate.
