He did it! Bode Miller finally takes gold

by: NH Ex-pat

Sun Feb 21, 2010 at 20:23:25 PM EST

(NH's own Bode Miller brings home the gold!   - promoted by susanthe)

After all the crap he went through, on and off the ski slopes, Franconia's own Bode Miller finally wins his first gold in the Men's Super Combined.

Miller finished seventh in the downhill portion of the Super Combined and was .76 seconds behind Norway's Aksel Lund Svinda going into the slalom.  Bode made up that time and leaped ahead of the leaders by .33 seconds.  Svinda straddled a gate on his slalom run and did not finish. Second place Dominik Paris, of Italy, put in a lackluster run and wound up thirteenth, while third place Carlo Jankka, of Switzerland, wound up in fourth. In the end, Ivica Kostelic, of Croatia, won the silver and Silvian Zurbriggen, of Switzerland, won the bronze. But the big story is that Miller won and he is now the most decorated American alpine skier in history.

Indeed you did. Way to go Bode.

Bravo Bode!!! (4.00 / 1)
A well deserved gold for a true original. . . . and don't forget Dartmouth senior Andrew Weibrecht, who will bring a surprise bronze medal in the Super G back to Hanover!

Very true (4.00 / 5)

New Hampshire now has more medals than Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, and Japan, and several others : )

Bode Miller will try to qualify for the U.S. Open
By Chris Chase
Tue Jan 26, 2010 4:26 pm EST

After the Olympics, world champion skier Bode Miller plans on scaling a different kind of mountain: He wants to try and play in the U.S. Open tennis tournament.

The controversial two-time silver medalist said Tuesday that he will play in one of the USTA's new sectional qualifying tournaments this spring in hopes of winning a wild-card spot to the U.S. Open in August. Miller won the 1996 Maine prep title and continues to play recreationally. His family has been a long-time owner of Tamarack Tennis Camp in his home state of New Hampshire.

"Tennis has always been part of my life," Miller said. "The U.S. Open National Playoffs is a great concept and I look forward to playing. It will give me an outlet to focus my competitiveness after the Olympics and World Cup season."

The odds are slim that Miller or any of the 4,096 potential entrants will make it to the main draw of the actual Grand Slam event. The 16 sectionals will consist of a maximum of 256 players. Anyone with a valid USTA membership and $125 can enter, although space is limited. It's expected that a majority of entrants will be junior players, collegians, teaching professionals and recreational players.

I wonder if this statement is now inoperable?

I'm just hoping he doesn't get thrown into the spotlight again. It won't help him. n/t (0.00 / 0)
