Shorter Republican Status (02/25/10)

by: Dean Barker

Thu Feb 25, 2010 at 07:47:51 AM EST

Shorter John DiStaso's Granite Republican Status (02/25/10):
I double-dutch promise you, with cherry on top: there will be a GOPer to go up against Gov. Lynch who isn't named Jack Kimball or Karen Testerman. Just be patient already!
Adding: At the end of the day, has anyone in NHGOP-Land figured out that having a second Craig Benson protege running for a major office in the fall might just be a bad thing, from a marketing perspective, for Kelly Ayotte and John Stephen?

I worked hard to get Lynch in. I am frankly losing interest in doing so again after seeing things like another $140 million in cuts, a moratorium on school building aid, highways that are being nickel and dimed to pave, layoffs of state workers, privatizing programs. This yellow dog has doubts there are two more years' worth of accomplishment left in JL. Show me someone running for corner office with a get-off-the-Pledge/get-into-reality plan, and s/he's getting a second look from me, D, R or Purple Cat Party.

I hear you, but (4.00 / 1)
I would urge you to spend your time and efforts planning for a Pledge-Politics-rejecting candidate for the 2012 cycle.

The current reality for 2010 is that Gov. Lynch is running, and he is committed to pledge politics.  There isn't infrastructure or will or good framing or even an ideal climate to change that on the D side in time for November.

So I am very happy to support him over any of the disasters the GOP has to offer, especially when I think about the Rs controlling the House or Senate. But looking forward, I am also enthused about what comes in the post-Lynch era.

The other thing to bear firmly in mind (4.00 / 4)
about this coming election is that the 2010 Legislature will be in charge of redistricting--an action which will have consequences well beyond the biennium.  If the Rs retake the majority, the effects are going to be way more far-reaching than the inevitable far deeper budget cuts, and the equally inevitable renewed effort to repeal all the worthwhile things the Ds actually were able to accomplish.

Sen. District 16 (4.00 / 1)
is a testament to the pitfalls of redistricting...shaped like a snake it picks up Republicans from Rockingham, Hillsborough, and Merrimack Countues...!!! Tough to overcome.

No need to tell me. (4.00 / 1)
I serve in the House from Cheshire 2, which runs from my town, Walpole, on the banks on the Connecticut River, thence east through Alstead, Marlow and Stoddard, thence south to include Nelson, Sullivan and Roxbury.  If I travel to Concord by the fastest route, I leave my district when I leave Walpole headed south on Route 12.  I travel through bits of three towns not part of my district (Westmoreland, Surry and Keene) and cross back into my district when I leave Keene on Route 9 into  Roxbury, and from there I drive through my district towns of Sullivan, Nelson and Stoddard.  When I finally leave my district at the Stoddard/Antrim line, I am half through my one hour and fifteen minute drive to the State House.

Yes, most assuredly looking forward to 2012 (0.00 / 0)
It can't come fast enough. You have someone in mind as described?

Looks like Stephen wants a go (0.00 / 0)
At least according to the UL. Interesting in the comments section there, too - there's plenty of voices slamming Stephen for his terrible tenure as head of HHS already.

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!
