Patriotic Alert!

As Democrats huddle behind closed doors plotting a government takeover of the smoothly-running private health care system, word has begun to leak out of the arcane techniques they plan to use in imposing their will on the public.

Their designs cannot stand the light of day. So they are relying on bizarre technicalities they have discovered - or invented! - in Congressional procedures.

The latest outrage: they plan to hold a "vote."

elwood :: Patriotic Alert!
In this perversion of representative government Senators and Congressmen - pulled almost forcibly away from their homes on the Sunday talk shows - would be forced to actually take a position on the health care bill - and then, if more representatives "vote" in favor than "vote" against, the bill would "pass!"

This process may seem cute and quaint. But, if it is allowed to proceed, it could actually change things.

What must it be like (4.00 / 1)
for DiStaso to carry the UL's right-wing water all the time?

TUESDAY EVENING UPDATE: THE PROCEDURAL DANCE. They call the NCAA men's basketball tournament the "Big Dance."

But what about the "Big Procedural Dance" on health a care reform on Capitol Hill?.

Meanwhile:

Norm Ornstein: "Any veteran observer of Congress is used to the rampant hypocrisy over the use of parliamentary procedures that shifts totally from one side to the other as a majority moves to minority status, and vice versa. But I can't recall a level of feigned indignation nearly as great as what we are seeing now from congressional Republicans and their acolytes at the Wall Street Journal, and on blogs, talk radio, and cable news. It reached a ridiculous level of misinformation and disinformation over the use of reconciliation, and now threatens to top that level over the projected use of a self-executing rule by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi."

"But even so - is there no shame anymore?"

In reference to the hand wringing on the Republican side.  I take all of this as really good signs that this is moving forward and the Republicans are in disarray, thinking at one point that they had killed this thing.

There are those on the other side who are calling for open disobedience if the bill passes.  With the history of opposition to this, and other, communist bills, it would be prudent to keep your head on a swivel at all public gatherings.  While it's true that my kids refer to me as "Mr. Safety", I would counter that there's no lack of crazies out there and paying attention is a survival skill.

I'll be in Arizona if/when this bill gets signed by the Prez...I was also at game 7 in 2004 at Yankee Stadium when the Sox came back from 0 - 3 to win that series.  I think I was safer at Yankee Stadium.

Turning Tides, GOP Fail (0.00 / 0)

I take all of this as really good signs that this is moving forward and the Republicans are in disarray, thinking at one point that they had killed this thing.

If & when HCR passes, can we not start asking, loudly, how is it that the GOP could not "drive the stake?" How pitiful is the real organizational strength of the GOP? Sure, they used the teabaggers, like so much cannon fodder, to close the breech. But they couldn't get a handle on the "coup-de-grace."

Will it be enough for them to say that Dems have control over the Congress and the Whte House?

I'd like to start using the poll data that GOPers are fond of, showing how Americans hate the process and the general negativity that abounds. I'd like to ask the GOP, "How did you fail to stop this?"
