Hey Guys - Where Is Your Outrage Today?

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Thu Apr 08, 2010 at 17:33:54 PM EDT

(The unbelievable sexism of Sarah Palin! - promoted by Dean Barker)

Back in January, Patrick Hynes, formerly of Faux!hampshire, went on a tirade because Carol Shea Porter said something to the effect that the Republican and Democratic women in congress thought that if all the men were sent home, health care could be passed.  It was a joke, but Hynes called this "incendiary".

Granite Grok accused CSP of being "blatantly sexist."

Oh, the outrage, oh, the horror!

Well, oopsie!  Guess who is talking now? Sarah Palin, heroine of the right, who said at her rally with Kelly Ayotte's campaign manager's former boss, Michelle Bachmann:

"Something kind of interesting about some of these Tea Party leaders - we are finding out that most of them are women," she told a boisterous crowd of 10,000 or so. "Yeah, some surveys show that."

She then quoted British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in explaining why that "gives us hope for this movement."

"She used to say, 'In politics, you want something said - ask a man. You want something done - ask a woman.'"

Kathy Sullivan 2 :: Hey Guys - Where Is Your Outrage Today?
Now, when seeing this quote in the Daily News, I immediately ran to Faux!hampshire and Granite Grok to read abouit their utter anger, their utter hysteria, over Sarah Palin's blatant sexism, her incendiary comments.

But what did I see?

Nothing.

It was just another case of faux!outrage on the part of paid Republican operatives and their followers.

Certainly we should see a front page UL story tomorrow on this! n/t (4.00 / 5)
...or maybe not.

Democrats solve problems, Republicans sit and say no.

The Democratic men in my life (0.00 / 0)
will always tell me when I am wrong!  However, Republican women are apparently fragile flowers, so no one may correct them lest they wilt.

We believe in prosperity & opportunity, strong communities, healthy families, great schools, investing in our future and leading the world by example. We are Democrats; we are the change you're looking for.

That's because Democratic men respect women enough (0.00 / 0)
to make an honest assessment of their work.

One of the reasons conservatives are dismissive of affirmative action is because they know they judge on the basis of superficialities, rather than achievement.

Mainly, IMHO, laziness accounts for it.  Going by appearances is easy.  Laziness is not a gender-linked characteristic.  :)

Even a blind squirrel (0.00 / 0)
finds a nut once in a while.

I have no problem with Palin's characterization, although, like Dean, I strenuously object to the phony outrage - the Foster's Daily Dose of Democrat Bashing lambasted Carol for that comment.  Idiots.

My own calculation (4.00 / 2)
This was a matter of the right entertaining themselves in a way that would affect no votes.  The real message was they couldn't find anything real to ride from Carol's town halls, so were reduced to trying to make something of a joke.  And they have an echo chamber, so it echoed. But it was not worth responding to then and still isn't.

The real value will be in pinning the R's down on SS, Medicare, Repeal, and bank reform.  Their positions on those issues are serious loosers and will drive votes.

Perhaps (4.00 / 2)
But we have to point out the silliness of these rightist geese and ganders, to make sure that those outside the echo chamber understand that the flames they are trying to fan are faux-ny. Or, in other words, that you have to take everything they say with a box of salt.

Remember the outrage over Spitzer, (0.00 / 0)
and compare to the media silence on Ensign and Vetter.

Now imagine if the gender roles were reversed...they'd run out of ink!

Spitzer was different (0.00 / 0)
in that he was a crusader against wrongdoers, a hypocrite of the highest order...cracking down on sexual crimes while 'performing' them. #9 #9 #9 #9 #9...I attended a meeting with Eliot in NYS in the Fall of 2005, and he was as he appeared then, an imperious, egotistical prick on the way up. Surrounded by guards, he arrived late, spoke, and left early taking no questions. He was cleaning up Dodge, a.k.a. Meriil Lynch et al. Lot of good that did us.

Not in the shot

but... (4.00 / 1)
Ensign & Vitter were also crusaders against wrongdoers and hypocrites.  Ensign was probably the worst of the three we are talking about: having an affair with a subordinate and then bribing her cuckolded spouse is (arguably) more scandalous than simply patronizing a hooker.  Especially when you're not even using your own money to bribe him.

You forget Mark (4.00 / 1)
Hiking the Appalachian Trail" Sanford.

He was AWOL from his post as Governor of South Carolina, for goodness sake. A coffee bar attendant would be fired for that!

And to make matters weirder, he compared himself to King David of Old Testament fame, basically saying "King David did it, so it's okay for me to do it".

That is seriously sick on at least two levels. 1. He is not King David, 2. We do not live in that culture or time period. And he's still in office as well.
