While the other team wants to put people in government who don't believe in government, Carol Shea-Porter is the definition of what public service is all about:
Heather Russell's health is rapidly fading as she battles terminal cancer and Social Security rules.
She practically has no strength in her left hand, and it was obvious when she took to filling out forms in hopes of receiving disability insurance payments before she dies. But the mere fact she was filling out the forms is reason to hope, said her father, Herbert "Rusty" Russell.
They were recently at Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter's Dover office, where staff is helping Heather file an appeal with the government, Herbert said.
In addition, Rep. Shea-Porter has co-sponsored legislation that would end the waiting period for disability benefits that some terminally ill patients undergo.
Please read the whole article. It really evinces the nexus, imo, between constituent service and the role it can play in useful legislation. It shows how, in order for government to function better and more efficiently, you need public servants who believe in the public good.
