NH-02: In-State Money

Landrigan:
During her first quarter as a declared candidate, Swett raised $323,000, which is a significant sum. A review of her report, however, concludes about 14 percent of that money - $44,000 - came from New Hampshire donors.

...By contrast, Democratic rival Ann McLane Kuster got about half of her $840,000 from New Hampshire residents.

Of course, Kuster has been raising for more quarters than Swett, so it's not exactly apples to apples.

If in-state money is an indicator of primary voter enthusiasm, Kuster leads considerably.

National popularity
Democratic congressional candidate Katrina Swett, of Bow, continues to be a prominent figure nationally, going outside the state to pull in most of her campaign cash.
During her first quarter as a declared candidate, Swett raised $323,000, which is a significant sum. A review of her report, however, concludes about 14 percent of that money - $44,000 - came from New Hampshire donors.

Swett carried $917,000 from her aborted run for the U.S. Senate in 2008 into this race. She had raised $58,400 from in-state donors for that race. This means among all of her funds, about 8 percent of the money proved to be homegrown.
There were 62 who maxed out to Swett in the latest report, with $36,000 coming from California, about $45,000 from New Jersey and about $60,000 from New York.

Swett also raised another $10,000 from political action committees, including $2,000 from the PAC of her late father, former California Congressman Tom Lantos, and $5,000 from the Washington PAC that's dedicated to the defense of Israel.

By contrast, Democratic rival Ann McLane Kuster got about half of her $840,000 from New Hampshire residents.
Kuster recently began a feverish schedule of 30 house parties in 30 days that will feature events in Nashua, Hollis and Amherst toward the end of this month.

You know its a trend... (4.00 / 1)
I wrote about this a long time ago.

I noticed the Union Leader's brief, one paragraph description of Katrina Swett's fundraising yesterday and I wasn't satisfied.  So, I've been digging through her FEC Report myself.  I knew, of course, that she had a history of getting a lot money from out of state contributors.  According to open secrets, in her 2002 US House race Swett raised only 5% of her money from in state.

So, none of this should surprise you.

According to the report, Swett raised $419,100 from 233 `Individual Contributors', with an average donation of $1,798.72.  Of this, $395,600 or 94% has been raised from out of state contributors.  A measly 23,500, 6% has been rairaraised from NH Contributors.

Then again (4.00 / 1)
she has increased her in state fund raising percentage from 5% to 14%.  So thats progress, right?
