New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley Lauds Job Creation in Month of April

Latest Economic News Is Proof Policies of President Obama and Democrats in Congress are Improving Economy

Concord - Today, the Labor Department released its April jobs report, showing that 290,000 jobs were created last month - more than 100,000 new jobs than analysts had expected and the largest monthly jobs gain in four years.  In response to this news, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

"The new jobs report is great news for the people of New Hampshire and the nation.   The country is adding jobs at a record pace and it's clear we've turned a corner."

"The remarkable turnaround in the economy was accomplished without any help from Republicans.  At every opportunity, they stood in the way of progress - hoping that the economy would languish and they would gain politically."

"Their crass focus on political gain over the well-being of our state and county must end today.  It is undeniable that Democratic policies are responsible for cleaning up the mess created by 8 years of failed right wing economic policy.  Republicans drove our economy into a ditch, but President Obama and the Democrats in Congress have pulled it out and got us back on track."

"In light of the incredible progress we've made in just over a year, even the staunchest right wing partisan can no longer deny this simple fact."

"It's important to remember that just one year ago, the country was losing nearly 800,000 jobs every month.  President Obama and New Hampshire's congressional delegation - Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Congresswoman Shea-Porter, and Congressman Paul Hodes - have been working tirelessly in Washington to undo the mess created by Republicans."

"With this latest report, our country has added jobs in five out of the last six months.  In addition to the 290,000 jobs added in April, job creation in March was even better than originally projected.  232,000 jobs were added in March - 70,000 more jobs than the 162,000 originally projected."

"Here in New Hampshire, Governor Lynch and Democrats in the House and the Senate have also been working hard to implement New Hampshire Working - a program designed to protect Granite Staters who currently have jobs, help those without jobs find work, and ensure that the New Hampshire workforce has the training and skills necessary to compete for the best jobs available."

Below is a graph of job growth and loss from the Obama and Bush administrations.

How many are Census jobs ? n/t (0.00 / 0)

What a crock!

We all know that ACORN closed its doors, so it's a wash.

this is a lot of spin. Jobs were added but the unemployment rate went up at the same time.

This bump can be attributed to census jobs - and the fact that the fisherman who have recently lost their jobs on the Gulf Coast haven't been factored in, nor have all the teachers who will be pink slipped at the end of the school year.

Not nearly enough is being done to create new jobs.

Of course, the way we count the unemployed is fatally flawed.

Good News, Everybody! (0.00 / 0)
Good news for America is good news for Democrats! (Why are Republicans rooting against America?)

Only the left protects anyone's rights.

Um, Harrell? (0.00 / 0)
How many Blue Hamsters do you figure don't know who Ray is?

1/3 of this month's job growth will automatically evaporate...and the market is giving me the willies too

Yeah, but (0.00 / 0)
they will do real good before they evaporate - pay for rent, food, car payments, mortgages. Stores on the brink won't close yet, because of those temporary paychecks.

And the 227,000 is a lot better than previous months.

But growth is still much slower than we need, and like you I'm worried about the overall market.

even though we walked it back from the brink (0.00 / 0)
the world is in a parlous state. I am beginning to believe that we are the world's best chance...they look to us in times of stress...and from what I've been hearing our reputation around the world is flourishing again under President Obama...it just may be too tough right now for the American consumer...still throttled by excessive debt, high unemployment, and no clear path out.

The Stock Market (0.00 / 0)
is jittery - once Greece defaults, and it will, Spain and Portugal will be next as their bonds get downgraded.  It could be a long summer.

Do we really want to continue to build the global economy on material consumerism?  Aren't we seeing the limits to our system in neon lights?  Despite the warning signs, we continue to operate under the fallacy of There Is No Alternative, and the powers of the status quo are doing everything in their power to keep feeding the corporate profit beast.

In the immediate aftermath of Since the start of the financial crisis, the Fed/Treasury lent, spent, or guaranteed $28 $29 trillion to save the banking system.

Well, if you define "politics" as wielding power over people, rather than (0.00 / 0)
managing the affairs of the polis, then the political economy is one in which how people sustain existence is manipulated to control their behavior.  Put bluntly, "there is no free lunch" means "you'll not eat unless you do what you're told" or "the price of your continued existence is subservience."

Given this perspective, it is, of course, necessary to provide evidence of the ability to actually carry through on this threat with a limited example.  And, when the near starvation of certain small populations no longer makes a significant impression, it becomes necessary to cause a more significant event that affects a larger population.  It would be nice if modern communications made it possible to generate sufficient fear by publicizing the distress of a Somalia or Sudan or Indonesia, but Americans are hard to talk out of their conviction that "it can't happen here."  So, they have to be shown.

One of the major "benefits" of the "free market" is that nobody's responsible for a sever disruption of exchange and trade.  Moreover, because nobody is officially in charge of the economy, the politicians can be blamed for failure and take credit for successes they don't actually control.

However, this time around, it seems fairly obvious that the cause of the economic collapse can be identified.  The people who control the supply of money, the currency which lubricates our network of trade and exchange are to blame because, by their behavior, they restricted and constricted its flow.  Money makes it really easy to control the economy, if what you're after is to derail it.  Getting it back on track is harder.  Just throwing money at the problem doesn't solve it because trust has to be rebuilt and rebuilding trust in a population that's been frightened to within an inch of its life is hard.  In part, that's because fight or flight are not the only responses to fright.  The third alternative response to fear is to freeze, as in hold real still and do nothing.  Our people have to be mobilized and that's going to take a while.

Going shopping is not evidence of economic life.

P.S. Don't think that an obese population is evidence that the preceding hypothesis is in error.  Hiding the evidence of starvation (the deprivation of sufficient energy to sustain life) under layers and layers of fat is not an entirely novel strategy.  Stuffed geese don't fly away.
