Governor Lynch Files for Re-Election

by: Ray Buckley

Fri Jun 11, 2010 at 15:22:56 PM EDT

Nearly 200 Granite Staters cheered on Governor and Dr. Lynch as they walked to the Secretary of State's office to file for a fourth term. Escorted by respected leading New Hampshire citizens like former Republican Governor Walter Peterson, former Concord State Senator Mary Louise Hancock, regular folks from every walk of life greeted the Governor with chants of "two more years! two more years! (although I heard someone chanting ten more years!). Their enthusiasm could even be heard a block away!

What a stark comparison to Johnny's filing yesterday when he only attracted about 30 supporters and used his filing as an opportunity to announce that repealing marriage equality will be a priority for him. Still waiting to hear Johnny's budget plan, perhaps Governor John "22% average budget increases and 3 deficits" Sununu is still tutoring Johnny.

CONCORD - Citing the progress already made and the work yet to be done, Governor John Lynch today filed to run for re-election.

"We've gone through tough economic times together in the past several years. Now we are rebuilding New Hampshire from this storm - putting people back to work, helping our businesses grow and great new jobs; and expanding opportunity for all our citizens," Gov. Lynch said. "I am running for re-election to make sure we get the job done."

Gov. Lynch was joined at the filing by his wife, Dr. Susan Lynch, former Republican Governor Walter Peterson, and more than 100 other supporters.

Under Gov. Lynch's leadership, New Hampshire has fared better than most states through the recession. It has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and economists predict New Hampshire will lead the region out of the recession.

"The strength and innovation of our people means that New Hampshire will emerge even stronger than before. But I will not be satisfied until every New Hampshire citizen who wants a job can get a job," Gov. Lynch said.

Gov. Lynch's plan for continued economy recovery keeps New Hampshire one of the most business-friendly states in the nation, with no sales or income tax. It uses tax credits and training grants to help businesses grow, puts unemployment funds to better use helping companies avoid layoffs and hire new workers; and encourages the growth of new technologies and new jobs here in New Hampshire, with initiatives such as the Green Launching Pad.

Under Gov. Lynch, New Hampshire has also made sweeping reforms to state government, including passing the first-ever ethics law for the Governor's office and the Executive branch; and continued improvements to reduce state spending.

"I've used my business experience to make government more efficient -- centralizing purchasing, eliminating outdated programs, boards and commissions, and putting more services online. From the beginning of this recession, we've acted early and aggressively to reduce spending and to keep New Hampshire state taxes second lowest in the nation," Gov. Lynch said.

Under Governor Lynch, New Hampshire has been named the safest state three years in a row; the best state to raise a child; and was recently named the most livable state in the nation.

Gov. Lynch has worked to make New Hampshire an even better place to live and work with comprehensive reforms across state government, including in education, public safety, health care, the environment and energy, consumer protection, transportation, and economic development, including:

- Toughest laws in the nation against child predators and an Online Child Safety Act.

- Comprehensive reform of New Hampshire's corrections system to more strictly monitor recently released inmates, to reduce recidivism, improve public safety and save taxpayers money.

- Innovative education plan that helped reduce New Hampshire's high school dropout rate by 30 percent in just one year.

- Kindergarten available to every child in every community in New Hampshire.

- Banned predatory lenders from New Hampshire; placed tough new regulations on mortgage companies; cracked down on foreclosure scams.

- Comprehensive energy plan that is helping businesses and families reduce their energy costs and spurring the development of renewable energy in the state.

- Economic development plan that is providing tax credits and training grants to help companies grow; helping companies avoid layoffs and making it easier for companies to hire new workers; and investing in initiatives such as the Green Launching Pad to spur the development of new technologies and new jobs in New Hampshire.

- Expanded support for children's health insurance; created a more affordable health insurance alternative for small businesses; increased the ability of doctors to electronically prescribe medications; instituted a medical home pilot program to focus on prevention and reducing costs.

- Rebuilding New Hampshire's long-neglected roads and bridges, including expanding the Spaulding Turnpike and Interstate 93, bringing open road tolling to Hampton, repairing dozens of red-listed bridges.

- Protected a woman's right to choose.

- Ensured marriage equality for all of our citizens.
