Given the breathless tweets from Pat Hynes yesterday, and the fact that Manchester Mayor Gatsas is a Mahoney supporter, I wouldn't be surprised if the latest non-controversy, i.e., the SHOCKING SCANDAL that some graduating seniors got letters of congratulations from their congresswoman, dutifully stenographed by DiStaso and then spread around by other campaigns, is yet another phony distraction from the Sean Mahoney campaign.
Apparently reading the law is a bridge too far for the pushers of this non-story:
Schools may disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. However, schools must tell parents and eligible students about directory information and allow parents and eligible students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose directory information about them. Schools must notify parents and eligible students annually of their rights under FERPA. The actual means of notification (special letter, inclusion in a PTA bulletin, student handbook, or newspaper article) is left to the discretion of each school.
Seems pretty clear that if someone is upset about their address going out, they need to take it up with the school.
But of course, that's not the point.
The point is that Sean Mahoney, and the rest of the GOP contenders for that matter, have still not figured out a basic fact they need to win in November. That they have not offered voters a compelling reason to vote for them.
Throwing stones at Carol Shea-Porter, and tweeting about it to bigger DC media fish, is not a valid reason to run for office.
