Congressman Guinta: Brought to you by the NH Media?

by: Dean Barker

Sun Oct 03, 2010 at 09:34:07 AM EDT

Frank Guinta injected three hundred and fifty-five thousand dollars into his campaign that he either cannot or will not prove is his own money. All it would take is a bank statement.

If it is not Guinta's money, this is a basically a type of campaign finance money laundering.

Three hundred and fifty-five thousand dollars is the kind of money that easily translates into a TV ad that can move the needle one point, and deliver victory.

The New Hampshire media are largely stenographing this in the framework of silly season politics.

But this problem will not go away after the election.  Eventually the truth will come out. If the New Hampshire media fall down on their job, we will have a brand new Congressman enveloped in a potential scandal from Day One.  Won't that be great for our state?

I personally would rather be focused on Frank Guinta's desire to abolish Social Security, and a host of other issues where he is wrong for New Hampshire. And as I said above, Guinta can put this issue to bed easily and immediately.

Like buying a house (0.00 / 0)
when I bought my first house I needed to show at least 6 months of bank statements to show my money was my money. A gift from Father in-law to help with the down payment? He had to cough up bank statements as well.

Regular folks in NH trying to buy a home have to do this every day. That Frank Gunita is not being held to task for this is ridiculous.

It may not be a lot of money (0.00 / 0)
TO REPUBLICANS AND THE RIGHT WING MEDIA, but it sure is a lot of money to us working stiffs in NH!

Frank Guinta is a bully and a camera hog. (0.00 / 0)
That's evident from the "debate" on NHPTV.  The link is being sent around to get people to watch.  I think it's a waste of time.  Carol obviously felt rushed by the Guinta fillibuster, repeating his talking points and not answering the questions.
His 4522 jobs lost number was effective because it distracted Carol from pointing out that NH has obviously benefited from the federal funds for infrastructure, health care and education and while the current unemployment rate in the 6% range is not great, it's better than most everywhere else.
Guinta's bullying is evident in such phrases as "she doesn't understand," "she hasn't read" and "I feel," the latter implying that he's a feeling, caring person while Carol is not.
But, the main thing I took away from what I did watch, is that we are to believe that our captains of finance, industry and commerce are all a bunch of wimps who are clutching at three trillion dollars in cash because they're afraid they're going to be taxed.  Our champions of free enterprise are suddenly afraid to invest because there's a risk that, if they make a profit, it will be taxed.  One has to wonder how ordinary folk ever get up to go to work since they know their paycheck will be taxed, so their wimpy bosses won't have to pay.
What exactly are Guinta's business buddies afraid of?  What makes them think public services are free?
Btw, the ARRA dollars are going to continue to be paid out through 2011.  While most have been obligated -- i.e. promised to contractors and grantees-- the Obama/Biden Administration does not dole out dollars until plans are finalized and work has been done.  It's a matter of following the proper sequence.  You don't pay for something until you've got what you're buying in hand.  Everybody knows that roofers who don't have enough capital to buy materials and want to be paid up front are not to be trusted.  And, if they don't know, we should tell them.
