More Airplane Death Jokes - This Time From Granite Grok, Prominent Guinta Supporter

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Fri Oct 08, 2010 at 10:57:18 AM EDT

(Grok goes the Full Fergus with president death "jokes." I'm sure that Sununu and that Eagle publishing subsidiary blog will get right on this.   - promoted by Dean Barker)

Ugh, what is with the total inability of some NH political activists to understand that joking about the deaths of prominent current, former or potential future office holders is inappropriate, in bad taste, stupid, and, frankly, creepy and weird?

The latest comes from "Skip" at Granitegrok, who in his Friday humor posting decided that it would be a big LOL to joke about Barack Obama dying in a plane crash. Well, actually, the joke is that he does not die in the plane crash, an Iowa farmer buries him, even though Obama says he is not dead, because "you know how bad that sumbitch lies".

When a couple of Democrats made stupid, inappropriate comments, I was one of the first to speak out, because what they both said was stupid and inappropriate. The Republican issued outraged press releases, such as the following:

"Mr. Halloran's outrageous comments are a new low, even by the standards of the New Hampshire Democrat Party," said NHGOP Communications Director Ryan Williams. "His publicly stated death wish for Governor Palin and her family is abhorrent, and has no place in our public discourse. Governor Lynch and Ann McLane Kuster need to immediately denounce Mr. Halloran's hateful remarks and demand that he personally apologize to the Palin family."

Okay, Ryan - where is your outrage today? Are you going to promise that neither you nor John H. Sununu will ever appear on granite grok in the future? Are you going to demand that Johnny Stephen, Kelly Ayotte, Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta denounce Skippy and demand that he personally apologize to the Obama family? And how about people like Republican state senate candidate Andy Sanborn, he of the floating address, who appeared on a grok podcast?

Because this is worse than the Palin joke. This is a joke abouit someone actually killing the President of the United States. Which Skippy finds really funny.

Grok is a major backer of Guinta (4.00 / 1)
Grok endorsed Guinta back in May, and Guinta has appeared on Grok podcasts/liveblogs.

Just about a week ago, Guinta invited Grok to live blog from one of his events.

So, what will Frank Guinta do? Will  he defer to Brett Bosse for a comment like, "it's his personal business'?

NHDP Calls on Republican Candidates to Denounce President Obama Murder Joke

Concord - This morning, prominent New Hampshire Republican activist and internet blogger Skip Murphy posted an offensive joke on his web site about President Obama dying.  The punch line involves the intentional killing of the President following a plane crash.  Murphy's post was titled "Friday Humor - Subject: Plane Crash" and appeared on his blogging website, GraniteGrok.com.

Murphy's "Granite Grok" is a go to site for Republican candidates and party leaders, and has endorsed  numerous Republican candidates such as John Stephen,  Frank Guinta, and several state senate and legislative candidates, including William O'Brien, a Republican candidate for speaker of the New Hampshire House.

Graphics representing campaigns are posted on the right hand column of his site.  Republican candidates have continued to appear on Granitegrok podcasts, even though just a few months ago Murphy's former colleague, Doug Lambert, resigned from the state due to controversial comments made about New Hampshire Democratic Chairman Raymond Buckley. Congressional candidate Frank Guinta has even invited Murphy to "live blog" from at least one Guinta event.

"Murphy's comments are indefensible even by the standards of the NHGOP," said Harrell Kirstein, press secretary for the New Hampshire Democratic Party. "They have routinely ignored the hateful rhetoric preached by members of their Party, including Granitegrok, and as a result their activists seem to think it is fun to publicly discuss the death of the President.  The candidates supported by Murphy and Granitegrok, like Stephen and Guinta, need to denounce this outrageous behavior,"

"This is not the first time Granitegrok has joked about the deaths of public figures, yet Republicans not only have not disassociated themselves from the site, they patronize it regularly," continued Kirstein.  "Will Republican candidates like John Stephen, and  Frank Guinta finally say enough is enough? Will they  immediately denounce Murphy's hateful comments, and demand he remove his endorsement of them from GraniteGrok.com?"

A screen shot of Murphy's post can be found here, and a picture of his endorsed candidates can be found here.  His endorsement of state Rep. Will O'Brien can be found here.

Where is the outrage?

Ole Skippy is a self-proclaimed evangelical Christian. There would seem to be a disconnect between what Christians profess to be, and this guy's "humor."

sanctimonious purist/professional lefty

this is not Skip's first plane crash joke (0.00 / 0)
In an earlier installment back in May, Skip posted another plane crash joke.  He basically suggested that you get back at "your annoying seat mate on your next [airplane] flight" by logging onto a web site which consists of a 60-second countdown timer accompanied by Arabic music and slogans.  That seems like a pretty good way to get yourself thrown in jail, actually.

Skip posts a lot of airplane-related material.  He evidently loves airplanes almost as much as he hates liberals.

Fair diary (4.00 / 1)
Unfair headline, in my opinion. I get that you were trying to highlight the Guinta relationship with GG for people who don't read it regularly, and singling him out in a comment is certainly fair game. But I think doing it in the headline is unfair. He didn't say it.

And, as you have excellently noted several other places on this site, there is plenty else to discuss about Frank.
