Republican Alliance Support Government Control Over Private Lives

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Wed Oct 20, 2010 at 08:55:01 AM EDT

(Plans from the Nanny Party - promoted by Mike Hoefer)

The New Hamsphire House Republican Alliance releasing their legislative priorities. The first priority  mentioned was repealing marriage equality. This was a little ironic in that they claimed that their proposals "will restore prosperity, re-establish New Hampshire as a state that attracts newcomers and encourages its citizens to live their lives without government interference."

Wrong.  Telling us who we can marry on the basis of preference is most certainly interference by the government.  As for prosperity, marriage equality is good for business - in Connecticut, for example, it is estimated that an additional $40,000,000 has been brought into the state due to the passage of marriage equality over the last two years.

They also want to force you to produce photo i.d. in order to vote.  This is the first step toward requiring citizens to carry government approved papers all the time, which is very anti-liberty, anti-personal freedom. Free, law abiding citizens should not be forced to produce identification in order to exercise our constitutional right to vote.

These alleged defenders of liberty actually do not believe in liberty, or personal freedoms, or freedom from government interference. Democrats need to take back the mantle as defenders of the core values of the American Revolution, equality and liberty, because these folks are poseurs. With a capital POSE. They hide their efforts behind faux history, bad science and fear. They would end equal opportunity by eviscerating public education (jeapordizing national security and prosperity). They would turn back the clock on our constitutional form of government and back to the days of the Articles of Confederation.

Right. They do not believe in liberty. They believe in authority. (0.00 / 0)
They believe that if the head of the smallest social unit exercises authority as he is supposed to, then it won't be necessary for government to do it for him.
It's a male-centric ideology which rests on the belief that, if males are to be socially responsible, they have to be in charge.  In a sense, dominion over the household is supposed to serve as a bribe to moderate and modulate male behavior.

"I will be good, if you let me do what I want."

If that doesn't work, then government's role is to pick up the slack and provide "law and order."

Terrorism (0.00 / 0)
If the House Republican Alliance has as it's first priority repealing marriage equality, they are nothing more than terrorists threatening the lives of NH citizens.  This evil must stop.

Remember "Republicans will Restore Law and Order?" Circa 1968 (4.00 / 2)

There's always been an undercurrent of authoritarianism in the Republican party.

Here it comes again.

They aim the canon at you!"

Thanks for the full explanation Kathy (4.00 / 2)
I didn't have time this morning to explain what was wrong with this group - and you probably did a better job with your essay than I would have done.

I did want to make sure BH readers saw the article.

Oops (4.00 / 1)
I didn't see that you had done one, sorry, I would have done as a comment!!

I am very tired of these people turning back the clock on the revolution that our founding fathers and mothers started back in the 1770's.

These Republicans Don't Like And Trust Americans (4.00 / 2)
They want to control who we marry, what we do in the privacy of our homes, and they don't want us to be free.  They're in favor of Big Government telling women what they can and cannot do, and protecting the rich and their pocketbooks at the expense of those in need.

Yep, the difference between Republicans, who brought us two unnecessary wars and raised spending and expanded taxes, and Democrats, who brought us health care and restored strength to our economy when it was on the brink of failure.

Help Defeat The HRA!! (0.00 / 0)
My name is Theodore Groh, and I, along with my teammates Kary Jencks, Jennifer Daler, and Andrew French, am running in Hillsborough District 4 against HRA leaders Bill O'brien, and Bob Mead. If you really believe the state-house would be better off without them, help us by donating money towards advertising in the final weeks. We are serious candidates, and we think we can win this, but only with your help!!!

Please Donate:
