"When she's here with me" (0.00 / 0)
I don't think sorrow ever left his side...

But he befriended her, (0.00 / 0)
Sorrow and Frost worked and played well together.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great

And would suffice.

This doesn't sound like our apple-picker, does it? No subtle metaphor to work through - that melancholy mask has maybe broken into a dark grin.

He always had the words (0.00 / 0)
for us, in his time and in ours.

Good piece by Alex Beam (4.00 / 1)
On the 40th anniversary of Doonesbury. Wait, Doonesbury is younger than me?

When I was a kid, at my grandmother's house, there was a massive hardcover of vintage Buck Rogers cartoons. I mostly read the ones in color, the Sunday ones, because I could only read it when we visited.

At my parents' house, there was a nice softcover Doonesbury collection. I forget which one I started with, but I'm sure I could pick it out of a list. But eventually I read all of those, at least twice.

No wonder I'm screwed up.

I stuck to the Sunday Globe sports page - hours and hours. n/t (0.00 / 0)

He didn't reach Brian Dowling (4.00 / 1)
Though he mentioned a meetup of old Yalies that BD attended.

Ever since the leg at helmet came off, BD has been the most fully realized character in the strip (and he's the most conservative, except for the cartoonish - yeah - tycoons.)

From some quote of the day thing I get. I don't know who Laura Mercier is -- hopefully not some GOP freshman rep-elect.

"Think for a minute about what makes you fabulous and how you can celebrate it."

I've always been the curious sort, Jim. (4.00 / 2)
And I wasn't surprised or disappointed, although somewhat amused, to see where your quote of the day may have originated. :>)

Well, it's still good advice.
