It is with sad news to report that Bishop Gene Robinson, bishop of the Episcopal Dioscese of New Hampshire, will retire early because constant death threats and other related pressures that put "constant strain" on his family. Robinson will retire from the Church in 2012.
Agence France Presse reports.
"The fact is, the last seven years have taken their toll on me, my family and you," Robinson wrote in a message posted on the diocese website.
"Death threats, and the now-worldwide controversy surrounding your election of me as bishop have been a constant strain, not just on me, but on my beloved husband, Mark, who has faithfully stood with me every minute of the last seven years."

I applaud Robinson for standing up to the hate, fear, and homophobia that he's encountered over the years. He's been a tremendous service to the NH Episcopalian Church ever since his consecration. Let's offer Robinson all of the support he needs right now.
