RootsCamp NH - This Saturday

by: Dean Barker

Thu Nov 11, 2010 at 07:14:01 AM EST

(Bumped. - promoted by Dean Barker)

I'll let the description speak for itself:
Since 2006, NOI has hosted RootsCamp, an "unconference" where organizers set the agenda, share lessons learned and drive the conversation about best practices in organizing. Rather than a day of planned panels and powerpoints, people have real live conversations about valuable organizing lessons taken from the field, both online and offline.

The RootsCamp "unconference" model allows organizers to meet and debrief in a way that promotes shared learning and engagement. Instead of the traditional panel discussion, the participants are the presenters! Participants not only take away lessons to apply to their own work, they establish lasting new partnerships with organizers from all over the state.

On November 13th and 14th, 25 RootsCamps will take place all over the country, and right here in New Hampshire we have an opportunity to discuss the successes and challenges facing progressive organizers! Join us, and let's plot the course forward.

Working Families Win, NH Citizens Alliance, Granite State Progress, and we at BH are all partners for this event taking place at SNHU this Saturday.
NH State RootsCamp
Saturday, November 13th
Registration: 8:45 am, Event: 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Location: Webster Hall, Southern NH University, 2500 North River Road, Hooksett
Campus Map: http://www.snhu.edu/212.asp

While an "unconference" is kind of all about the participants rather than big names, I am already hearing noises about some folks who may be there I am looking forward to seeing in person and meeting.  But again, this is really all about you and charting the way ahead.  I think it goes without saying we've got lots of work ahead of us. Hope to see you there!

For those of us who need to be at the State House (0.00 / 0)
for the first House Democratic Caucus for 2011-2012 is there any way we can learn of the ideas discussed?

2012 starts today.

Good question. (0.00 / 0)
I don't yet know the vehicle by which what is discussed is made known, but to the extent BH can help, I am happy to.

This is great! (4.00 / 2)
I am noticing that there is a real organic effort across the state of people trying to get together, talk, plan, plot and move forward.  It is exciting to see, and the fact that it is organic proves what I've been saying to people since that Awful Tuesday: with crisis comes opportunity. These efforts are finding the opportunities.

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."  Franklin D. Roosevelt

And it is important to let everyone have an opportunity (0.00 / 0)
to think and express their thoughts and ideas on how we move forward. No effort should be discouraged. It would be wrong for the leadership to announce a "one path" for all that must be followed. The challenge is how to incorporate everyone's activities into a chorus of progressive action. We are strongest when everyone is participating and doing what works for them and for those they are reaching.

2012 starts today.

NOI Rocks (0.00 / 0)
I highly suggest going. I used to intern for them a few years ago and have gone to every Roots Camp since. You will learn a lot, meet great people, and walk away feeling a lot better!

Yes (0.00 / 0)
I've been to a few RootsCamps and they are top-notch.  Please go and have some fun.

New RootsCamp partners, speakers (0.00 / 0)
This will be a really powerful opportunity to plan where we go from here, while also acknowledging the tremendous amount of work done over the past year and a half.

We've got some great experts coming, including Senators Jackie Cilley, Betsi DeVries and Maggie Hassan, as well as campaign managers and staff.

You can still register for RootsCamp at: https://sites.google.com/a/new...

I really look forward to the discussions tomorrow. Please remember: there will be break-out space for anyone interested in leading a conversation as well.

Please Report on the Unconference here! (0.00 / 0)
Knew about it too late to attend. It would great if these discussions happened across the state.
