Is it April Fool's Day?

by: Mike Emm

Fri Feb 04, 2011 at 17:57:32 PM EST

(Focused like a laser on the budget... - promoted by William Tucker)

This is a serious question. It's the only possible explanation for the utterly insane bills that have been showing up on the statehouse register the last few days. OK, maybe legislative services is fed up with all the malarkey they have been dealing with and posted these as some sort of sick joke. That's also possible.

In case anyone is in any doubt that our state is officially to be known from now on as 'North Mississippi', here are some of the bills the third largest legislative body in the English-speaking world will be pondering in the next few weeks. Read 'em and weep, as an old friend used to say.

HCR11, urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations so that the United States may retain its sovereignty and control over its own funds and military forces.
Here's my personal favorite line from this bill:

Whereas, many of the member nations of the United Nations are not friendly to the United States and support many things that are detrimental to this country and against its interests, yet expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's problems, even putting the lives of this nation's military forces in danger...

HCR13, urging Congress to pass legislation against losses in value due to money supply by the federal reserve; restoring gold and silver money; and phasing out the federal reserve system That's right, it's back to ancient times for our monetary system. Two lectures in a middling quality state university would tell you why this bill is stunningly bad, but that's two more lectures than the sponsors bothered to sit through.

Mike Emm :: Is it April Fool's Day?
HCR14 ordering our federal senators to vote against the Law of the Sea Convention. Got that? Not asking our Senators to vote against this treaty. Ordering them to. This little doozy is from Rep. Itse, backed by the usual pack of nuts. He's got another bill to get rid of the law of the Sea. My guess he got hit by a wave as a kid and has held a grudge against the ocean ever since.

HCR19 affirming States' powers based on the Constitution for the United States and the Constitution of New Hampshire. More Tenther madness from the self-proclaimed constitutional scholar, Rep. Itse. This sentence is a beaut- 325 words without benefit of a single period.

That the State of New Hampshire urges its co-States to charge to one if its committees with the duty communicating the preceedings of its Legislature in regard to the government of the United States of America to the corresponding committees of Legislatures of the several States; to assure them that this State continues in the same esteem of their friendship and union which it has manifested from that moment at which a common danger first suggested a common union: that it considers union, for specified national purposes, and particularly to those specified in their federal compact, to be friendly to the peace, happiness, and prosperity of all the States: that faithful to that compact, according to the plain intent and meaning in which it was understood and acceded to by the several parties, it is sincerely anxious for its preservation: that it does also believe, that to take from the States all the powers of self-government and transfer them to a general and consolidated government, without regard to the special delegations and reservations solemnly agreed to in that compact, is not for the peace, happiness, or prosperity of these States; and that therefore this State is determined, as it doubts not its co-States are, to submit to undelegated, and consequently unlimited powers in no man, or body of men on earth: that in cases of an abuse of the delegated powers, the members of the General Government, being chosen by the people, a change by the people would be the constitutional remedy; but, where powers are assumed which have not been delegated, a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy: that every State has a natural right in cases not within the compact, (casus non foederis), to nullify of their own authority all assumptions of power by others within their limits: that without this right, they would be under the dominion, absolute and unlimited, of whosoever might exercise this right of judgment for them
If you understand this, there is a baseball cap at Mensa with your name on it.

HCR25, urging Congress to amend the Internal Revenue Code to permit churches and other houses of worship to engage in political campaigns. Why should churched be allowed to engage in political campaigns, you ask? Because

certain factions in the United States have targeted churches and houses of worship with hostile and egregious lawsuits depriving them of their first amendment right to freedom of speech to participate in America's political life.
That's why.

And two more anti-tax bills, not so much funny as preposterous, HB645 and HB646 HB 645 rolls back 'various' taxes and fees.  There are 85 sections of rolls back, meaning the sponsors want to cut at least 85 fees and taxes in the face of our enormous budget gap. That is so irresponsible it is funny But HB645 is nothing compared to HB646, which has 111 sections of cuts! That's 26 more cuts!

With this majority.... (4.00 / 3)
EVERY DAY is April Fool's...

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

no fooling Raymond n/t (4.00 / 1)

note to close readers: this might be sarcastic so think twice before reading to candidates for use in their attacks on each other

Perhaps (4.00 / 1)
you are misinformed.  Perhaps November 2nd, 2010 was officially designated April Fool's Day unbeknowst to you'all.

I suppose these people have never actually read (4.00 / 1)
the US Constitution.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;

The Governor (4.00 / 1)
had better have a lot of ink in his veto pen.

And now for a pause that refreshes: (0.00 / 0)

Looking forward to a floor vote on HCR 11 and 13 (0.00 / 0)
Sadly, it won't happen will it?

HCR 13 (0.00 / 0)
Is the product of Norm Tregenza, the John Bircher who replaced the intelligent and well respected Bob Bridgham in Eaton/Madison/Albany. The local paper never mentioned Norm's affiliation with the Birchers. At a recent county delegation meeting, he suggested that the county jail use powdered milk to save money. When a jail official suggested that might cause riots, Norm's response was, "Buy more tasers."

Forward into the past.

That makes at least two Birchers in the House (0.00 / 0)

Bob Kingsbury of Laconia, proud Chapter Leader of the local Chapter of the John Birch Society. I wonder how many others there are?

the NH GOP is moving, bravely, forward into the past. Only the GOP would send representatives of an anti-government hate group to represent us in Concord.

O'Brien calling legislators "clowns"? (4.00 / 2)
According to Rom Fahey's column today, Speaker O'Brien is very mad at Democrats for crtiicizing him and creating a media circus.  He says the Democrats produce a new clown to throw at the media every day. Can that be interpreted in any other way than O'Brien referring to his own Republican members as "clowns"?

http://www.unionleader.com/art...

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."  Franklin D. Roosevelt

So who are all these clowns O'Brien is talking about? (4.00 / 1)
Greazzo, who started the whole l'affaire Brunelle?

Mirski, who just can't seem to get his Legislative Administration committee organized?

Gionet, who wants the state to pay his legal bills?

Weyler and his unconstitutional bill to force the AG to launch a suit?

Reagan, who doesn't understand the purpose of a public hearing?

Notter of cancer bake sale fame?

Ulery, who blames the Jews for the way they were treated?

Am I missing anyone?

He's already thrown Greazzo under the bus. Is he getting ready to throw all these people under the bus, too?

[ Parent ]
sounds like a massive case (0.00 / 0)
of projection on the part of Speaker O'Brien.

[ Parent ]
That is so weird! (0.00 / 0)
The Democrats are producing the clowns?  Making them up?  No way, these are real clowns, and the kind that give you nightmares.
