I have sent the following e-mail to 4 of my 5 state representatives, Reagan, Tasker, Duarte and J. Sullivan, and to my senator, Jack Barnes, asking them to read the governor's veto statement on the Right to Work for Less bill:
I don't believe I could improve upon Governor Lynch's statement on his veto of this bill, but I would like to call your attention to a bit of it, although I trust you have carefully read it all:
"The debate over the so-called right-to-work bill in New Hampshire appears to be largely driven by national outside interest groups, and is not a result of problems facing New Hampshire businesses or workers.
There is no justification in this case for state government to interfere with the right of private businesses to freely negotiate and enter into contracts with their employees. Therefore, I am vetoing HB 474."
And I need to ask you, why are you voting for legislation that is being pushed by out-of-state interests? This isn't the only piece of legislation that is way, way out of the mainstream of NH political thinking and practice. We are all really wondering where you got the idea that NH needs this? What NH needs are good-paying jobs, decent infrastructure, great education, and preserving and protecting our beautiful environment. Yet there you are, attacking all these things. Why? Who's asking you to do this? Why are you allowing your speaker of the house to play dictator, you state representatives? What has happened to NH that everything we thought we were for is being turned on its head?
Puzzled,
I hope we will all contact our representatives and ask them to sustain the governor's veto. Please add any and all reasons why this is a terrible idea for NH workers and our future.
