Early Noises about the Governor's Race

by: elwood

Sun Sep 18, 2011 at 11:12:06 AM EDT

Tom Fahey provides a rundown of the most likely candidates in both parties. The column is worth reading, but I'll highlight a couple of interesting names:
  • Democratic side: Former Senator Maggie Hassan gave the strongest, earliest signs of a run;
  • Steve Marchand, the former Portsmouth Mayor who was considering a run for US Senate in 2008 before Jeanne Shaheen entered, gets mentioned;
  • Gary Hirschberg, the CEO of Stonyfield Farm, seems to be making noises. He also considered a Senate run in 2008, but bowed out early after deciding that he needed to do more succession planning at the company.
  • On the Republican side, Ovide Lamontagne is rumored to be announcing this week. He came in a close second to Ayotte in the 2010 Senate primary;
  • Kevin Smith (NOT the Dogma guy, or well, the other Dogma guy) may run to Preserve Family Values;
  • 2008 Senate primary also-ran Jim Bender Gets Mentioned;
  • Executive Councilor Dan St. Hilaire has his Name Dropped. Has Colin Van Ostern scared him out of a reelection run already?

There are some other names being mentioned, too - read the article so I don't infringe.

This could be a lively year.

Well put (0.00 / 0)
Kevin Smith (NOT the Dogma guy, or well, the other Dogma guy) may run to Preserve Family Values;

Dogma -- I don't think I've seen another movie that I liked so much the first time and disliked the second time. Maybe The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

Now that Governor Lynch is out of the race, (0.00 / 0)
I wouldn't be surprised to see Mayor Gatsas and Senator Bradley test the waters as well.

Bradley's out, per news on Friday. (0.00 / 0)
It is a total mystery to me.

Um, you think he will start keeping his word now? (4.00 / 2)

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

Good point. (0.00 / 0)
