"The Occupied Wall St. Journal"

by: Lucy Edwards

Sun Oct 02, 2011 at 08:23:25 AM EDT

Now this is one great development!  I keep my eyes open for alternative media, because one of our greatest threats to our democracy is the lack of good information for our voting population.  Any step toward overcoming the corporate domination of media is a step toward overcoming the corporate stranglehold on our media and our country.
Lucy Edwards :: "The Occupied Wall St. Journal"
Just before noon, Chelsea Potter stood on the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street holding a sheaf of newspapers and offering them to passers-by.

"Excuse me," she said to a man in a tan raincoat. "Would you like a copy of The Occupied Wall Street Journal?"

The man accepted the paper without breaking stride then looked at it as he continued walking.

I passed it on to my friends at Likethedew, a southern journal put together by people who got bought out.

By now, you know 700 more were arrested. (0.00 / 0)
By all accounts I am receiving, the protesters - who had stayed on the sidewalks en route to the Brooklyn Bridge - were lead to believe they cold walk on the roadway, because the NYPD was 'marching' in front of them on the road.  While the NYPD says they told the protester they could not do this, the fact is, in a loud crowd of 700, no one but those in the immediate vicinity could hear them.

The police lead the march one-third of the way over the bridge before they brought in the nets and surrounded them("Kettling" is the new word we're using from this, borrowwed from Britain) and started the arrests.

Entrapment within Entrapment.

Labor unions join the occupation this week. Tuesday's Burt Cohen Show features veteran journalist Chris Hedges, who argues the Wall St Occupiers are not only the best among us but may signal the start of something quite significant. What does it mean that there's no clear message? Tune in your computer Tuesday Oct 4 from noon to one at wscafm.org.

compares to the Arab Spring.

My heart is saying it's time.  Just shows I am old enough to have been in my twenties in the sixties.  The idea of taking to the streets is always simmering in the back of my mind.  Maybe that's why I love doing visibilities so much!

Act Locally? (0.00 / 0)
None of us are going to drop everything and go to join the good folks at Occupy Wall St in NYC, so...

A fair target is your local branch of Bank of America, with their blatant screw the public attitude, refusing to invest in the community, huge bonuses after getting the public to bail them out, etc etc. They are certainly a fair target.

Sign holding visibilities in our larger towns, withdraw any accounts from BoA. Let the media know we are with the Wall St occupiers!
