In the fall of 2007 as an early Dodd supporter and a Dartmouth junior I was thrilled to see all the activity on the Green in the hours before the Democratic debate.
Looking at the Baker Tower webcam today, I'm much less enthused. The 2012 Republican presidential candidates represent the worst of the worst -- from calling to an end to the Department of Education to lowering corporate tax rates (while raising the tax rate on America's lowest income earners) to virtually eliminating checks on big polluters and drastically restricting a woman's right to chose -- the Republican Presidential candidates have really extreme ideas for this country.
Four years ago, I would have laughed at the idea that someone who blames God over BP would be considered a frontrunner and stunned that someone as hypocritical as Bachmann's would get a pass from the mainstream media, but today those are only two examples in a long list of reasons why I cringe when thinking about this Republican field.
So who is the worst of the worst? Today, Democracy for America launched a presidential pulse poll to hear from our members who we should make sure never secures the nomination. You can check it out and cast your anti-vote here.
I'm hoping there will be some rabble-rousing at Dartmouth tonight -- that the students in the spirit of the Occupy Movement will make their voices heard so the Republicans in town don't get an easy pass. Because if any of these candidates were elected, today's students would undoubtedly be shackled with even greater debt and even worse job prospects.
And I hope if you're watching from home that you will do what you can to draw attention to the GOP's hypocrisy, lies and extremism. Point out how weak their field really is -- please vote and share this pulse poll.
Finally, I hope you'll be blogging here on Blue Hampshire and/or live-tweeting. I'll be doing my best to keep up on twitter (with both @DFAaction and @Kaili09). And speaking of that, does any one know what tonight's hashtag is?
