The party of State's Rights

Remember last week when the GOP in NH was complaining about our State's Rights being violated when the Federal Government contracted directly with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.

Where was their mock outrage yesterday when a sitting US Congresswoman, Michele Bachmann, threatened to get involved in the RTW veto override?

So the Federal Government insuring the health and welfare of our state's women is protected = Violations of State's Rights.

A sitting US Congresswoman from a state with no geographic connection to New Hampshire trying to influence the outcome of the New Hampshire Legislature = Business as usual.

The NHGOP really needs to come with an owners manual so we could actually know what we are getting with these guys!

I suspect (4.00 / 3)
their owners' manual would be like some of those we used to get when we bought something made in Japan and someone tried to do a literal translation from the Japanese.  The only way they can justify what they are doing is to mangle the English language to the point where a dictionary would be useless.

Oh, maybe they could get La Bachmann to write it for them!!

"state's rights" is to be contrasted with individual (4.00 / 1)
human and civil rights.  That is, the state is sovereign.  Rather than locating sovereignty in the person of an emperor or king, supreme power has been transferred, according to conservatives, to an impersonal figment of the imagination, and is available to whoever can capture the flag.  That the power rests with the people as a whole simply isn't acceptable to or accepted by authoritarians. Humans, according to their lights, are too flawed to govern themselves and must be subject to those who know best. Instead of being anointed by God, after prior approval from the commercial class, these superior folk are content to leave the selection to the easily manipulable ballot box.

Also (4.00 / 1)
They defered to DC on minimum wage, ceding power to Washington on that. I heard they were enamored with Herman Cain's 999 plan.  The one that would impose a 9% sales tax on every state. So much for the NH Advantage.
