Mitt was giving the most tortured and excruciating answer yet to his tax release question. John King, who had just been viciously denounced by Newt for asking about his "open marriage" request, framed his tax question to Mitt perfectly. And it got Mitt so flustered I thought he would cry.
John's question put making tax returns public in the context of Gov George Romney's statement when he was running for President that suggested a candidate could release one year of returns that could be manipulated in some way "for show," and that he, Romney Sr. would release 12 years of returns to show the whole picture. King then asked Mitt if he, as his father did, would release multiple years' of returns. This context involving Mitt's own father, totally shook him. His beady eyes sunk back into his head, he turned white, then blue, then red. His answer, "maybe." Then, when the crowd booed, he argued that if he released more than this year's return he would only be playing into the Democrats' hands by giving them fodder to attack him. We all know how much Democrats hate the "free" market and peoples' "success."
Romney was caught with his proverbial pants down. We could then all see that this emperor, in all reality, has no clothes. Even Don Imus, who is being pressured from all sides, including his buddies @FOX to support Romney, railed against him this morning, calling Romney, what everyone who watched the spectacle last night knows him to be, an empty suit.
In the meantime, Obama was serenading at the Apollo, channeling Al Green.
What a precious campaign moment!
