HB 1147 is an act proclaiming March 31 of each year as a day to remember Teri Schiavo.

Intent. The general court hereby establishes March 31 as a day to remember Terri Schiavo who died tragically on March 31, 2005. The general court recognizes that her death occurred as a result of the failure of the state and federal court systems to uphold the words of the United States Declaration of Independence "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. - That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

According to the Legendary Constitutional Scholar Dan Itse and Legendary Tealibanista Jerry Bergevin, her death occurred because there wasn't enough gummint interference.

The end of Teri Schiavo's life was turned into a right wing Christian Taliban fiesta - where all kinds of people got involved in the most private decisions of a family - a  place where they had no business.

That's the thing. The Freebaglicans love to boast of how they hate gummint interference. That hatred lasts until they find themselves in the gummint, and then they can't wait to interfere. Especially where women's medical issues are concerned.

Teri Schiavo had no connection to NH. This is just obnoxious   posturing by Itse and Bergevin. NH taxpayers should be furious that they're paying for this kind of pious baloney.

Appalling. (4.00 / 4)
Many families must honor the decisions of others to remove life support.  We did it just two weeks ago for a member of our family.  It wasn't an easy thing to do, but it was their wish and fortunately it was in writing.  

This proposed legislation should make every thinking person take the time to fill out the papers and make a Living Will for himself.  NOW.

This will create jobs, how?

all of these rationalizations is the desire not to be obligated for anyone else's welfare/existence.
These people are so insecure that the thought of being in charge of another's welfare is terrifying.
Why they became public servants is a mystery.  Perhaps it's all just a huge misunderstanding. Perhaps they thought that "if there was just a law" it would erase all their fears.
Conservatives are literal.  Perhaps "rule out fear" seemed possible.

Conservatives are directed by ulterior motives to engage in indirect action.  So, for example, they "create" jobs by "encouraging" someone else.  You could call it magic.  It's hard to describe.  But, when indirection is combined with a belief in an either/or world, then it become possible to expect that whatever result isn't wanted, the (indirect) process that produced it just has to be reversed.

So, if one believes that the government's intent to have Teri die caused her death, then reversing the government's intent would have kept her alive. In a sense, it's a matter of substituting intention for action. If there's no action to be concerned about, then the whole world can be rearranged by thinking the right thoughts. They simply deny that anything real (tangible) exists and that's what makes them idealists.

THE GOPPER / CON HAS NO PROBLEM UNLEASHING GOVERNMENT AGAINST THE 99%  

The Schiavo case was the end of the Bush-Republican dominance (4.00 / 2)
Vast majorities in both parties felt that Fox News/Bush/Cheney getting involved in that case was wrong and hypocritical. Bush's unfavorables went way up in the aftermath as they tried to back out of the terrible situation they put themselves in.

It's great news that NH republicans have nothing better to do than remind a 50-50 state of what life under Republican rule is really like...


Schiavo case was sad all around (0.00 / 0)
I distinctly remember this case. My Dad was in the same Florida hospital at the time. Terri's parents and husband were fighting over how to handle her situation. Her parents could not accept the facts, which must have been HORRIBLE for them. After Terri died, an autopsy showed her brain was virtually destroyed and there was no hope at all. I guess the nut-jobs who came up with this bill never heard the last part of the story. Or maybe they think people don't need a brain to function. THEY CERTAINLY DON'T.

The husband had been given the authorization by the court to stop the artificial nutrition and hydration because Terri had not signed any advance directives.  The husband had convinced the courts that her wish would have been allowed to die with dignity.  It was very sad that her parents were in denial of her obvious condition, even though the Republican Leader of the Senate claimed he could diagnose her from his office television.
