New Hampshire would be the first state without a poison control hotline due to lack of funding, according to a print-only article in today's Union Leader. The AP has a less detailed article: http://www.boston.com/news/loc...
The state used $600,000 of federal homeland security money to pay for their share, but have been told they can longer use the funds for that purpose. HHS says there is no money available in their budget to fund the center. Maine and Vermont use state funds and other money to fund the center.
The Center is meeting with state officials and representatives of our US Senators, the Governor, health care providers and charitable organizations about the lack of funding.
Shouldn't funding of a poison control center be a state function? The articles do not mention if our GOP-lead legislature have been involved in the meetings. Is this potential unraveling of our safety net another casualty of O'Brien's budget?
