Jackie's "Never Forgotten What It's Like To Be Hungry"

by: Dean Barker

Wed May 02, 2012 at 19:45:38 PM EDT

As a complement to the launch today of the expanded version of Jackie's website, JackieCilley.com, we are highlighting some videos taken recently from the campaign trail.

Here's one from Jackie's day in her native city of Berlin - a testimonial from long-time friend Claude Pigeon, about the experiences that made Jackie Cilley who she is and what kind of governor she'll be for all the people of the Granite State.

Dean Barker :: Jackie's "Never Forgotten What It's Like To Be Hungry"
Partial transcript:

Jackie at Teabirds in Berlin

"She grew up in abject poverty, and she knew want. She understood suffering and need, and she escaped the chains of her destiny, basically. She literally pulled herself out of her situation in life, created an entirely new situation for herself, and has become very successful with her life...

One thing I can attest to is she has not forgotten from where she came. She's not forgotten what it's like to be hungry. She's not forgotten what it's like to need. She's not forgotten the difficulty of making choices like, gasoline for work, and diapers for the baby; food for the pantry, fuel for the boiler...

I have not known all the previous governors, so I cannot say that she is the smartest governor we'll ever have. But I think she probably will be. I can't tell you that she's the most dedicated governor we've ever had, but I think she will be. I can tell with complete certainty that there will never be another governor who will be as hardworking as she is..."

I'm a person (4.00 / 3)
who really needs my candidates to understand in their bones what most of us face after decades of the GOP (and unfortunately some Democrats) slowly strangling the middle class.  President Obama knows, Carol Shea Porter knows, and Jackie Cilley knows.  I am sure there are others, I don't know my new congresswoman candidate Annie well enough yet, but I will find out.
I am a grassroots person.  I am suspicious of the "establishment." I want my needs to be acknowledged.  When I tell a candidate that the property taxes are driving us seniors out of our homes, I want more than a dismissal of the importance of that, because other interests have a louder voice.  Jackie hears me, and she has taken a stand for people like me.
