Among other things on his web site there's an announcement that Chris Dodd is planning a major policy speech on America's relationship with Cuba. Indeed, there's a promise that the speech from Miami, Florida, in conjunction with his participation in the first ever Spanish language debate, sponsored by Univision, will be streamed live on his blog.
Since Dodd has already made it clear that continuing the embargo makes little sense, it's likely that the speech will be about more than Guantanamo Bay and the detention center that's being "improved," with more court rooms for illegal proceedings, as we speak.
Also on the web site is an announcement that Dodd will be honored at a reception with Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, which, of course, immediately raises the question whether Chris Dodd is the latest addition to Newman's Own.
The reception is definitely a fund-raiser and getting a peek inside the Woodward/Newman residence will require a commitment to raise ten grand. But, for five hundred bucks you can get spend an hour and a half at the Treetops Estate, which is probably just as grand.
What's interesting to me, as a New Hampshire resident who's attended five Dodd events, is that I haven't yet been asked to donate a cent. Indeed, Dodd has said a couple of times that the money is not important--he's looking for boots on the ground and votes. I haven't pledged either, but it's getting close. I'm holding out for a commitment that the semi-permanent American bases in Iraq will be dismantled BEFORE the combat troops are withdrawn.
