Marchand is Out

by: Mike Hoefer

Fri Sep 14, 2007 at 19:55:44 PM EDT

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

According to post at the Union Leader. Updated 4:07
One of the three, Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand, will withdraw tomorrow, UnionLeader.com has learned. He will make the announcement at a news conference at the Portsmouth Public Library. Marchand will thus follow through on a promise he made in January, when he became a candidate.

Did not see this in the other diaries, thought it might be worthy of its own thread?

Certainly worth a diary (4.00 / 1)
Steve posts here and can smack us down if DiStaso made a [rare] factual error.

Thank you, Mayor Marchand, (4.00 / 4)
for taking on Sununu so early and for bringing attention to his failures.

And thank you for pushing to end this disastrous war now, for promoting better environmental policy, and demanding greater access to health care for all.

Here's hoping the remaining candidates continue to carry those banners of change.

Steve Marchand (4.00 / 1)
has built up name recognition across New Hampshire - among activists, at a minimum - and will (happily) be heard from in future elections if the step-aside is accurate.

Class Act (4.00 / 2)
Steve is a class act. I know it is hard for someone who has worked hard and put his heart into a race like he has to step aside, but he is the type of person who keeps his promises. He has a great future!

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

Well Said (0.00 / 0)
Style has been defined as grace under pressure. Some have it, some don't. Steve's got it...
good effort, and a future that's bright.

Next time, there may be no next time.

Don't forget, (4.00 / 1)
I agree, Marchand is a good man; he's also very young, so he has time to wait.  This isn't the end of his viability for higher office.  Who knows, he could succeed Governor Lynch someday.

Personally, I give him a lot of credit for making good on his promise to drop out considering how far he got and how well he was doing.

Marchand kept his word without hesitation. (4.00 / 1)
That will count a lot for him later.  If he kept his word about this Senate race, perhaps he can be relied upon to solve the deficit.

I agree (4.00 / 2)
The key is he didn't hesitate. A lot of pols try to do the grand gesture but they dither and it ends up looking self serving.

And doing this, I think he knnows he's young -- he's got a very bright future ahead of him.

If All Goes Well . . . (0.00 / 0)
. . . we'll be looking at Senators Shaheen and Lynch, and Governor Marchand, as of 2011.

The only bittersweet note is, where does Gary Hirshberg fit into the picture?  So many quality Democrats in New Hampshire, there isn't enough room for all of them!  But, hey, if only every state had that "problem!"

Marchand has spoken (0.00 / 0)
Confirmed here, details to follow.

Why does everyone speculate about (0.00 / 0)
Marchand as Governor?
