What a great day October 3 was! A confluence of events; congress acting on Paul Hodes request for the Justice Department to turn over records on phone jamming, and the new UNH poll showing Governor Shaheen with a double digit lead over John Sununu! Not to mention the masterful pitching of Josh Beckett last night at Fenway in Game One of the ALDS.
This phone jamming mess rightfully continues to haunt New Hampshire Republicans, their national party, and Sununu. They have stonewalled on phone jamming from day one. I try not to be too much of a wild eyed conspiracy theorist, but I still want to know why Darrell Henry, the gas lobbyist who was in NH to help Sununu's campaign, took the 5th when we wanted to depose him in our civil suit. What else was going on?
And why did the RNC pay millions of dollars for Tobin's defense?
And why has John Sununu acted as if none of this has to do with him? Where is the strong condemnation he should have issued five years ago?
Perhaps that is one of the reasons his favorable numbers are now at 40% in the latest UNH poll. Jeanne Shaheen has a terrific record on so many issues that it makes perfect sense that she would have a double digit lead over any candidate. But only 40% of those polled have a favorable opinion of Where's John E. He has never broken from the culture of corruption that helped send him to Washington, and he has enabled the Bush administration in its incompetence and corruption through his failure to demand accountabilty. It is poetic justice that as we enter the 2008 US Senate election cycle that the investigation into why people were willing to go to jail to get Sununu elected continues.
And about that game last night! We were lucky to have tickets. My husband booed Curt Schilling when the team was introduced. When someone looked at him quizically, John explained, "He's a right wing Republican". Thank God, Josh Beckett pitched, and what a game it was!
