Sununu Has A Big Target on His Back

by: Evan Carlson

Tue Jan 09, 2007 at 15:04:50 PM EST

An article by Nicole Duran of Roll Call revealed that Sen. John Sununu is one of the top three most vulnerable Republican Senators up for re-election in 2008 according to DSCC Chair Chuck Schumer.

There have been a number of posts on Blue Hampshire talking about the vulnerability of Sununu already, but Washington is beginning to sit up and take notice as well.

I think that Kathy Sullivan said it best:

"I think Sununu will have problems in 2008 that go beyond [President] George Bush and goes to John Sununu, his voting record, and who he is," said Kathy Sullivan, chairwoman of the state Democratic Party.

On election night, when New Hampshire voters tossed out Republican Reps. Charles Bass and Jeb Bradley, Democratic activists immediately turned their attention to Sununu, saying "he's next," Sullivan related.

However, the article does point out that Sununu already had more than $560,000 in his campaign account as of September 30.

Sununu's got a head start and we're going to have to work hard to unseat him starting right now!

Sununu has a target on his back, (4.00 / 1)
and Dean's engaging in target practice in his posts here pretty much constantly.

The money thing does mean it would be good to have a candidate getting things going sooner rather than later...

I admit (0.00 / 0)
it's my favorite topic.

Not because I hold anything personally against the junior Senator.  I simply see him as next up at bat in our efforts to restore our democracy to something resembling democracy.  He's had four years, on a good salary paid for by the People, to speak out and legislate on any number of issues crippling our greatness, but he has chosen party over country time and again.

If I am lucky enough to have a grandchild, I want to be able to tell her that in one of America's darkest times I at least shouted into the wind by virtue of the great leveling force of the internet(s).

And for those of you who don't know, we have this nifty Sununu tag which grows and grows and grows...

I actually saw the piece on Schumer last night, but I wasn't sure it was enough for a post.  What was I thinking?  Schumer puts Johnny in the top three?  Shout it from the rooftops.

We're on it... (4.00 / 1)
I am very encouraged at the prospect of unseating John Sununu.  Whoever decides to challenge him will need a will need a vibrant group of grassroots and netroots activists.

They'll find that at Blue Hampshire.

whoever? (0.00 / 0)
There may be several candidates; I hope people give them all a fair hearing if there are morethan one!

I do hope there are more than one, (4.00 / 1)
provided that they don't tear each other apart, and that thy promise to work non-stop for the nominee.

(From what I hear, Jim Craig was tireless in helping CSP in vote-rich but challenging Manchester; I admire that a great deal)

Excellent point (0.00 / 0)
Jim Craig should be a model for defeated candidates.

I hope we have a good candidate (0.00 / 0)
Who will run? Jeanne Shaheen? Dave Gottesman?

It looks like Steve Marchand is just a few weeks away (0.00 / 0)
announcing.  I hope there will be more still.
